Join us as we learn a few basics of drumming and then play drums and other rhythm instruments together in a circle – in the large stone circle at Kinstone with Drum Circle Facilitator, Jeff Cozy! This is for anyone of any age. You can be a total beginner, someone with much drumming experience, or someone in between. It’s for everyone! We will meet outdoors in the large stone circle at Kinstone, weather permitting. If it is storming or pouring rain, we will meet indoors in our Education Building.

WHAT IS A DRUM CIRCLE?
DRUM CIRCLE = Fun with Drums and Rhythm Instruments with everyone joining in!
This evening of fun and community will include drumming with kids, adults and elders and includes anyone from beginners who have never played a drum to experienced folks that have played many times.
The main objective is to share rhythm and form a collective voice as we drum together and have fun.
The determining criteria for a drum circle is that the music is improvised and co-created by the participants Jeff (our facilitator) helps to maintain a steady beat, helping those who need it, and generally managing the environment to see that everyone is able to participate fully. The participants make up the music as they go along, using their listening and playing skills to make musical connections and express themselves in any and all ways that feel right. Cues, which often mirror the movements of an orchestral conductor, are directed at the participants, who respond to the facilitator. This creates a leader/follower dynamic between the facilitator and participants. Actions such as rolling (rumbling), starting, stopping, raising/lowering the volume, accents, and when to play/not play are often given by the facilitator.
This is such FUN as we LEARN a bit and as we are TOGETHER in sound, rhythm and peace.
IMPORTANT: Participants will enjoy this learning experience outdoors in the large stone circle. Bring blankets, camp chairs or folding chairs to sit on if desired. Bring drums and percussion instruments you may wish to play. Bring lanterns, flashlights, or headlamps for walking back to your cars after dark. The new moon is the night before, so it will be extra dark! Hope for clear weather as seeing the stars from inside the stone circle is an amazing treat for the eyes!
It is recommended that you dress in layers, wear a scarf, and bring a sweater or fleece for some extra warmth if it is cool out. There is often a breeze at Kinstone and even in the summer we get cool nights. You may also wish to bring your own sunscreen and/or mosquito repellent.
FOOD! KINSTONE KITCHEN OPEN 5pm to 8pm!
The KINSTONE KITCHEN Food Truck will be open from 5pm to 8pm; serving a simple picnic fare menu of specialty cold sandwiches with a bag of chips and fresh fruit. Plan to get a bite to eat and enjoy it among the stones. The menu is available for review here.
INVITATION TO ENJOY THE GROUNDS: All attendees are welcome to come early and spend time viewing the megalithic features and beauty of Kinstone. There are three stone circles, a dolmen, labyrinth, dry-stack stone sculpture and more. Wear sturdy walking shoes. Dress for the weather.
Note about Cancellations: If this event is cancelled by Kinstone for any reason, all registered participants will receive a full refund of any fees paid. In all other cases, refunds will be handled as described in our Cancellation Policy.
