To truly heal from our past\, we must forgive ourselves so we can forge a new way.\nWe often carry shame from our past mistakes\, so we will often make the mistake again in some other way until we learn to forgive.\nForgiving ourselves requires that we feel what’s happening in our emotional realm and use our heartbreak as medicine. We must understand why we made the choices we did. It’s usually not a choice we made on our own\, but a choice we made as a result of upbringing\, our ancestral trauma\, and our conditioning. When we realize this we can deeply forgive ourselves.\nFrom there\, it’s important to share with someone what you’ve been keeping inside. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Sunrise Observance 2020
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Autumn to Winter. Come acknowledge the Winter Solstice by watching the sunrise with us and seeing the alignment in the Great Stone Circle at Kinstone! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to help us welcome Winter and send Autumn on its way with blessings. \nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required. Free will donations appreciated! \nDate: Monday\, December 21\, 2020  Time: 7:00 am – 8:00am  (Sunrise Gathering) \nIMPORTANT: Due to COVID we will NOT meet in the Education Center! We will hold a short program OUTDOORS near the Porch of the Education Center Building starting at 7am. Depending on snow levels and weather we will then decide if we go out to the circle or not. Weather and snow conditions permitting\, we will proceed together to the center of the Great Stone Circle. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and beams through the Chair Stones to light up anyone standing in the middle of the circle. Note: Actual sunrise is at 7:38am and given the topography at Kinstone it will be closer to 7:50am when we may see the sun from the center of the circle. \nThis event is planned to be held outdoors ONLY.  It will be cancelled in case of snow storm or bad weather. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, rain\, snow or clouds. If it is raining or snowing\, or if the snow on the ground is too deep for walking through\, we will CANCEL.  Cancellations will be posted on THIS event page and on the corresponding Facebook event page at least 1 hour before the scheduled start time for this event. \nDress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, boots\, scarves\, hats\, extra layers and gloves! Expect it to be colder and windier than you think! Be prepared to walk some distance through snow and on uneven (perhaps icy) paths to get to the circle! \nParking is limited – especially in winter. Please park in the small lot by the Education Center (Staff Parking area)\, park as closely to others as possible to make enough room for all. Note: we highly discourage parking along the road\, however; if you absolutely must park along the road due to snow in our Staff and Visitor Parking areas\, please make sure you put on your 4-way flashing lights while parked there for this short event. \nCancellation will occur in case of a major storm. Keywords: Expansive\, adventurous\, visionary\, enthusiastic\, open-minded\, freedom-loving\, independent\, philosophical\, search for wisdom. \n\nThoughts from our Global Sisterhood leaders for this month: \n“Sister\, have you ever felt incomplete or not enough? Have you ever found yourself waiting for another to see you so you can truly see yourself? What about waiting for someone to come and rescue or complete you? Have you ever felt that there is some place far off in the distance that you must get to in order to relax and fully enjoy who you are? \nWe tend to forget that we\, as women\, are channels of divine nectar\, the sweet source from which all life is born. We are the beginning and the end. Life begins with a woman gestating and giving birth\, and it ends with us returning our bodies to Mother Earth. This is an outdoor experience offering connection with nature while gazing out into our cosmic neighborhood! \nJoin us for an informal\, and relatively independent night sky viewing at Kinstone! Bring your own binoculars\, your own telescope\, and your own star finding guides\, etc. We will spread out across the land and spend a couple of hours with our eyes to the sky. Think about downloading an app to your phone in advance of this event such as Google Sky Map or something similar that shows you what’s in the sky. We may have one or more amateur astronomers join us from the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society (LCAAS). If they are able to be there they will help guide us to identify and find various celestial wonders to view independently\, together. They may bring larger telescopes which can be safely (all precautions will be taken) shared by many to view certain objects – especially the moon\, Saturn and Jupiter! Exciting! \nAstronomical Info For This Night \n\nSunset is at 6:18pm\nIt’s a very new crescent moon night – so the sky will be extra dark!\nJupiter and Saturn will be visible\nNeptune will be visible – but it is difficult to see\nMars rises at 6:12pm\nThe Orionid Meteor Showers peak on Oct 21st\, so we might witness some good meteors!\nFind the Big Dipper\, Little Dipper\, Cassiopeia\, Sagittarius\, Scorpius\, and more!\n\nCOST:  free will donation (suggested $5/person cash only  – there will be a donation box at the event)  \nBring your own chair or blanket to sit or lie on for your comfort. SUMMARY:Ribbons of Intention Fire Ceremony 2020
DESCRIPTION:Ribbons of Intention Fire Ceremony\n\n\n\n\nOctober 4 is the date designated as The Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. On or around this date each year we remove the ribbons that are tied to the Tree of Intention (a.k.a. Prayer Tree) in the Kinstone Chapel of Creation and burn them in the fire pit in the Stargazer Circle\, releasing the prayers and intentions written there\, to the Universe. This special event is marked by a brief ceremony that is free and open to the public. \nThis year (2020) this date coincides with our 8th Annual Autumn Open House. We will begin this event shortly after the end of the Open House. Please consider coming early to participate in the open house and get a piece of homemade pie or cheesecake! \nWe gather around the Tree of Intention in the Kinstone Chapel of Creation to begin this ceremony. All of the ribbons on the Tree represent intentions left there by visitors to Kinstone over the past year. When possible\, the ribbons will have been removed from the Tree prior to the start of this event. If not\, then all those in attendance will assist with removing them. The removed ribbons are collected into a large basket. The basket of ribbons is placed at the feet of the little statue of St. Francis outside the chapel in a symbolic expression of gratitude for holding these prayers this year. \nAll those in attendance may participate in a short service to lift up all those intentions in prayer. Gathered around the empty Tree we will say The Peace Prayer of St. Francis as a single red ribbon with the intention for world peace inscribed upon it is tied to the Tree. A new season has begun! \nAt this time\, everyone present is invited to take a ribbon if they wish\, inscribe a new intention upon it for the coming year and tie it to the Tree as well. \nThe basket of ribbons is then carried with respect and honor to the Stargazer Circle where a fire is already burning in the fire pit. When gathered there\, we create a sacred space for this ceremony around the fire. We speak of Saint Francis and the significance of his story and how it relates to the Kinstone story. We read stories about him and prayers that are attributed to him. We state our purpose in burning the ribbons; we profess our willingness to release attachment to the outcome and express profound gratitude that our needs will be provided for in creative and sometimes unexpected ways.  The ribbons are then put into the fire\, releasing all the prayers\, all the intentions\, to the Universe. We end by saying a prayer of thanksgiving. \nIf you are interested in participating\, just show up. No registration is required. There is no fee.

Artists may exhibit and sell any works produced during this event (or those created at prior paint days at Kinstone) between 4pm and 6pm on Saturday and between 12pm and 5pm on Sunday at Kinstone. Our 8th Annual Autumn Open House is from 12pm to 5pm on Sunday\, October 4 and we expect a large crowd that afternoon! Indigo skies and opal clouds are enticing. Curvilinear rows of arborvitae and spruce hug the land and shelter you as you immerse yourself in color\, light\, and movement. Come\, be enchanted. \n\nParticipating artists are encouraged to pre-register. Pre-registration is not required; however\, there is a discount for those that register before October 3. Artists may check in at Kinstone beginning at 8:00am and are encouraged to stay the full day so any visitors can speak with them throughout the day and during the sale. Participating artists must sign a liability waiver and image release upon arrival. Here’s your chance to find out! \nAt this nighttime event\, you can watch the sunset\, relax with sacred sounds of Native American flutes\, rare Tibetan singing bowls\, and a full immersion Gong sound bath in the Great Stone Circle while the full moon rises\, then take a guided night-time walk around Kinstone in the moonlight!  Bring your favorite crystal with you to charge it up with all this high vibe energy! You will also have an opportunity to get your chakras grounded with healing sounds while standing in a large singing bowl and/or drench yourself in relaxing gong sound vibrations. \nIf skies are clear you will be able to see the full moon rise and then\, despite the brightness of the moon you may be able to  stargaze! Look for Mars\, Uranus\, Neptune\, Jupiter\, and Saturn. DESCRIPTION:Autumn Equinox Morning Observance\nWatch the Sunrise Alignment Enlighten the Heart Stone \n\nJoin us to greet the first sunrise of Autumn! We will celebrate the Autumnal Equinox as we look to see the equinox sunrise alignment between sun and stone here at Kinstone!\n\nAutumn Equinox is an astronomically significant solar event. It occurs when the sun is midpoint in its journey from Summer Solstice to Winter Solstice. The sun appears to rise at due east and set at due west. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a harbinger of winter; a time for settling in for the season of rest\, rejuvenation and root work. \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunrise. Stand with us in The Three Witnesses sculpture as the sun aligns through the Equinox Window and highlights the Heart Stone. Come and see! \n\n\nWe will gather in the center of The Three Witnesses sculpture at Kinstone. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge (and the corn across the road!) and beams through the Equinox Window to light up the heart of the middle standing stone\, known as the “Heart Stone”. Given cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunrise\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. \nAfter our readings\, if the sun is visible\, participants may wish to look at the alignment through the Equinox Window\, see the heart highlighted in the Heart Stone\, sit in the light of the sun\, take photos\, and greet the sunrise. This gathering will last about 45 minutes to one hour. Actual sunrise is at 6:54am. Come and see! \nCome celebrate the last sunset of Summer with us at Kinstone! Join us as we gather to observe the sunset alignment at Kinstone on the eve of the Fall (Autumnal) Equinox. We will gather near the stones known as Lancelot and Atlas for a short opening rite and reading.  Sunset is at 7:04pm according to the charts\, but is often a little earlier as seen from up on the ridge\, so we will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun shortly after the reading at 6:30! \nGiven fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sun light is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in the Wise One. Autumn Equinox is coming around again and it is time to make sacred music in keeping with the seasons once more. You are invited to this special concert to recognize and observe the return of the Autumn Equinox at Kinstone! We host seasonal intentional events that remind us to honor our home\, the Earth and to connect with the sun\, moon and stars in our larger\, universal home. Join us as we welcome Autumn with enchanting music and sacred sound! \nExperience an incredible soundscape created by world-class musicians Peter Phippen and Rahbi Crawford. Crawford is a force of flowing energy as she evokes ethereal sounds from crystal and metal singing bowls\, a gong\, and her hauntingly beautiful voice. Phippen elicits sacred music from ancient and modern flutes (wooden\, bamboo and stone). These master musicians improvise and collaborate with great effect. The blending of flutes and crystal singing bowls goes straight to  the hearts and uplifts our souls. Special guests Victoria Shoemaker (wooden and crystal flutes) and Brian Reidinger (hand drums/percussion) will also perform. \nThese four world class musicians will take us on a sound journey as we sit amidst the standing stones of Kinstone Circle. As always\, the musicians will join the breezes and the host of singing creatures living in and around the fields\, forests and waters of Kinstone. This is an outdoor experience offering connection with nature while gazing out into our cosmic neighborhood! \nJoin us for an informal\, and relatively independent night sky viewing at Kinstone! Bring your own binoculars\, your own telescope\, and your own star finding guides\, etc. We will spread out across the land and spend a couple of hours with our eyes to the sky. Think about downloading an app to your phone in advance of this event such as Google Sky Map or something similar that shows you what’s in the sky. We may have one or more amateur astronomers join us from the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society (LCAAS). If they are able to be there they will help guide us to identify and find various celestial wonders to view independently\, together. They may bring larger telescopes which can be safely (all precautions will be taken) shared by many to view certain objects – especially the moon\, Saturn and Jupiter! We will run this mostly outdoor retreat experience with a limited number of participants to allow for proper social distancing and personal space both indoors and out. The land is lush and lovely\, the stones are standing in a sea of green\, the grasses are touched with gold – just waiting for you!\nJoin us for this one-day guided retreat and gift yourself some time to contemplate the thresholds opening up to new pathways in your life. \nKinstone has been described as a “threshold place”\, a place where we find ourselves called to slow down enough to notice the many openings in our lives where we are invited to cross into a new or renewed way of being in the world. Our world is in a massive transition. What has been “normal” is fading. New ways and ideas are begging to be seen and embraced. \nToday we will spend time with the land and sacred stone places here\, mostly in silence\, contemplating the thresholds that are appearing in our lives and seeking wisdom from our higher selves about how to step into these openings to find a (new) way forward. \nWhat Thresholds are you standing on today? DESCRIPTION:Join us for a meditative music experience in the Great Stone Circle at sunset. Ageless sounds of singing bowls blended with chant and song. It promises to be an evening of resonance and contemplative peace. \nTraditional historic singing bowls produce sounds that invoke deep states of relaxation; naturally assisting one in entering expanded states of consciousness and meditation. The sound of the bowls creates a deep level of communication with our inner world that opens us to the divine.  The sounds and vibrations of Tibetan singing bowls opens blockages and helps us experience an inner calm and deep relaxation to invigorate our natural energy thus allowing our body-mind-spirit to quiet and find balance. \nThomas Roberts will lead us for this evening of captivating renewal by calling forth the ageless bell sounds from the bowls. Karen Lee will sing or chant with the bowls. At times you may hear influences from the Native American cultures that are an integral part of her life experience and spirituality. Upon arrival\, proceed directly to the Great Stone Circle. \n\nThomas Roberts \nThomas (“Tom”) Roberts has gained widespread recognition in the field of health and healing as an and educator\, speaker and author who translates ancient mindfulness techniques into practical strategies that people can use in their everyday lives to be healthier\, happier\, and more fulfilled. Tom has nearly 50 years of experience as a licensed clinical psychotherapist. He has been an adjunct professor at Viterbo University in La Crosse\, WI and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud\, MN\, where he has taught mind-body healing\, integrative medicine and other mindfulness related topics. He has been a practicing Zen Buddhist for nearly 50 years. In 1992 he received lay Buddhist vows from Thich Nhat Hanh. Based in La Crosse\, Wisconsin\, Tom offers contemplative and meditation retreats and workshops at centers locally and throughout the United States. He is the author of The Mindfulness Workbook: A guide to overcoming fear and embracing compassion (New Harbinger Press\, 2009). \n  \nKaren Lee \nVocalist Karen Lee has been crooning for a lifetime.  Originally a La Crosse native\, Karen has returned home after spending 20 years in Portland and La Grande OR\, and nearly a decade in NYC. Karen’s passion for singing has led her down various musical avenues. Her musical career began as folk singer/songwriter in the 70’s\, which evolved into country rock\, blues and swing\, rhythm and blues\, and later into jazz and improvisation. In her early musical adventures\, Karen laid down many miles of life on the road. Embracing cultural diversity and life’s experiences enhanced Karen’s musical expression as a vocal soloist.  And she has been a frequent band member who has often arranged and sang intricate harmonies.  All of her travels gave rise to live performances\, recordings and many other musical opportunities. Karen’s vocal sound continues to evolve. Her voice has been described as that of a rich and sultry ballad and blues singer that can belt out a strong as sassy R&B tune yet is able to sing the intimate style of a bossa nova.

It begins each year with an event in conjunction with International Women’s Day (March 8) and continues each month on the day of the New Moon through October! \nIn circle\, we join in a short heart meditation\, then we have a time for personal sharing – feelings\, questions\, truths\, stories\, poems\, and more. In this space we are free to celebrate our individuality as well as our collective strength\, fearlessness\, nurturing\, healing and gifts. When the circle is closed\, anyone who brings a packed meal is welcome to find a suitable spot to eat picnic style. All are welcome to stay for informal conversation and relaxation. Come as you are. DESCRIPTION:Artists of every painting medium and every skill level are invited to create plein air works at our Summer Plein Air Paint Day & Art Sale on Saturday\, August 1\, 2020\, from 9am-4:00pm at Kinstone. We are pleased to announce that participating artists may exhibit and sell any works produced during this event between 4pm and 6pm on Saturday and again on Sunday between 10am and 6pm on the Porch of the Kinstone Education Building. Weekends are our busiest times and we hope that extending the sale to Sunday during our regular open hours will increase exposure and sales for everyone! For this event\, Kinstone will retain 15% of all artist’s sales. Artists must remove their artwork by 6:30pm on Sunday\, August 2. \n——————————————————– \n“Summer set lip to earth’s bosom bare\,\nAnd left the flushed print in a poppy there.”\n~Francis Thompson \n——————————————————— \nThe cost to participate is $5/person (i.e. equal to and included in the price of admission to Kinstone!)  No pre-registration is required. Find your way to the amphitheater of the labyrinth\, the cool shelter of the dolmen\, and the quiet seclusion of the Circle of Mystery or many other wonders to be encountered. Curvilinear rows of arborvitae and spruce hug the land and shelter you as you immerse yourself in color\, light\, and movement. In this space we are free to celebrate our individuality as well as our collective strength\, fearlessness\, nurturing\, healing and gifts. NEW DUE TO COVID TIMES:  No meal is provided by Kinstone. Join us!\nAN INTRODUCTION TO THE WAY OF THE BRUSH \nThe purposeful use of brushes\, ink and paper as a method of deepening the spiritual journey has been employed throughout the centuries by numerous traditions. In the Japanese tradition\, this technique is referred to as “Shodo” or “The Way of The Brush.”  It is an insightful method that opens us up to receive great peace\, balance and harmony into our lives via patient brush strokes. \nIn this introductory Shodo workshop\, you will have the opportunity to experience the playful and profound dance of brush\, ink and paper. Together\, we will explore aspects of using The Way of the Brush as a meditative tool and create personal\, meaningful Japanese Shodo ideograms that express our unique and creative selves. We will use dynamic Zen brushes to explore and access a level of wholeness of experience not otherwise possible. Developing an attentive relationship with the brush\, ink and paper\, allows you to access your deeper wisdom in a new and refreshing manner. Zen Brush is an expression of the soul. \nThere will be some time for participants to experience the sacred landscape and intentional spaces at Kinstone to inspire your body\, mind and spirit. SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Sunrise Observance 2020
DESCRIPTION:6/21/20 4:15am update: There is heavy mist on the ridge\, but I will be in the circle to see what happens at sunrise. Any who can join\, please do – and drive carefully in this fog! \n6/20/20 4:15am update: THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN! So sorry we cannot meet the sun today in the Circle! Happy Solstice! p.s. if the weather holds promise tomorrow\, we will meet on 6/21/20 at 5:15 instead!  \nEvery Summer Solstice\, we stand and greet the sun as it enters the Great Stone Circle at sunrise. You are invited to join us as we recognize the passing of the seasons from Spring to Summer in this auspicious and sacred stone place. \nIf it is not raining we will gather at 5:15 am in the Great Stone Circle in time to witness the rising of the sun – actual sunrise is at 5:23am but it is usually 5:30 before it visible in the stone circle. Due to COVID\, we prefer not to meet indoors\, so\, if it is raining\, we will CANCEL the event. \nGiven fair weather and a clear horizon\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and is ushered through the Summer Solstice Corridor into the circle. It will set its golden glow upon anyone standing in the middle of the circle. Further\, it will cast the shadow of those persons standing there onto the stone directly in the path of the sun – the “Shadow Stone”.  Fun fact: This stone also marks the exact point of WINTER Solstice SUNSET\, i.e.  summer solstice sunrise and winter solstice sunset occur along the exact same line!  Truly magical! \nGiven cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunrise or the shadow\, but will greet the dawn of Summer ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. Feel free to bring a reading or quote to share. Witness the arrival of Summer. Send Spring on its way with blessings. Although the actual sunrise is at 5:23am\, the topography of Kinstone means it will be just a little (about 8-10 minutes) later than that. Be there early\, just in case! Feel free to arrive as early as 5:00am if you wish. We will NOT meet afterwards for refreshments due to COVID. \nCOST: Suggested Donation of $5/person (place in Blue Payment Box on the Information Sign Boards near the parking areas); No Registration Required \nDate: Saturday\, June 20\, 2020  Time: 5:15am – 6:15am \nThis event is outdoors. SUMMARY:Midsummer's Eve Concert in the Stones

We are planning to run this as an all-outdoor event with proper social distancing and plenty of personal space.  IMPORTANT: There is no indoor option in case of rain\, so if it rains we will hold this on Saturday night instead. JOIN US! \nAt Kinstone we take time to recognize the passing of the seasons with intentional events that remind us to honor our home in this part of the Universe. Join us as we greet Summer with a mystical\, magical\, musical welcome on Midsummer’s Eve amidst the great circle of standing stones at Kinstone. \nExperience the incredible\, transformational sounds of Peter Phippen and Rahbi Crawford in this magical venue. They are master musicians who improvise and collaborate with great effect. Their blending of the sounds of flutes and crystal singing bowls will get right into our hearts and souls. Special guests Victoria Shoemaker (wooden and crystal flutes) and Brian Reidinger (percussion / drums) will also perform. \nThese world class musicians will take us on a sound journey as we sit amidst the standing stones of Kinstone Circle. They will enchant us with their sacred sound even as they lull the sun to sleep at sunset. As always\, the musicians will join the breezes and the host of singing creatures living in and around the fields\, forests and waters of Kinstone. \nIMPORTANT: This is a non-smoking\, alcohol free\, kid-friendly event. \nDue to COVID\, if we are rained out on Friday evening we will NOT hold this event inside the Kinstone Education Center. For the past 24+ years\, he has been a founding partner\, and longtime Creative Director/Chief Composer/Producer at Minneapolis based\, In The Groove Music LLC ; crafting jingles\, scores\, and songs for television\, advertising\, news\, sports\, video games\, etc. In 2019\, he will  be finishing a solo project\, producing 34-tracks for Austin\, TX based Drew Davis\, and co-writing/producing a new World/Ambient collection with Peter Phippen and Victoria Shoemaker. SUMMARY:Spring Plein Air Paint Day & Art Sale
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL NOTE Regarding COVID: THIS EVENT IS STILL ON! We are planning to run this as an all-outdoor event with proper social distancing and personal space both during the painting time as well as during the sale. All sales will be handled outdoors.  \nArtists of every painting medium and every skill level are invited to create plein air works at our Spring Plein Air Paint Day & Art Sale on Sunday\, June 14\, 2020\, from 9am-4:00pm at Kinstone. Participating artists may exhibit and sell any works produced during this event between 4pm and 6pm OUTSIDE of the Kinstone Education Building and on the Porch. Due to this being our very first plein air event and due to the limited\, 2-hour sales opportunity on this day\, Kinstone will retain NO part of any sales made by participating artists for this event only. Artists must remove their artwork by 6:30pm. \n—————————————————————————————————- \nJust one week before Solstice\, the lovely spirit of Spring will be in fine fiddle in June. She will already be saying farewell as greens intensify\, blues deepen and she strews the ground with fair flowers to prepare the way for Summer. Come out to paint Spring’s portrait as only you can before she is gone! \n—————————————————————————————————- \nThe cost to participate is $5/person (i.e. equal to and included in the price of admission to Kinstone!)  No pre-registration is required. Registration is from 7:30-8:30am onsite. Artists must sign a liability waiver upon Registration. Limited options for food and refreshments (e.g. coffee\, tea\, hot cocoa\, soda\, sparkling water) will be available for purchase throughout the day. \nIn case of rain there are several shelters artists may opt to work in including inside the Dolmen\, the yurt\, straw-clay cabin\, Dragon’s Keep pavilion\, Chapel of Creation\, the classroom\, and the Porch on the Education Center. \nKinstone will maintain its normal open hours (10am to 6pm) to the public throughout this event. Early prairie flowers are in bloom\, butterflies are out\, and choruses of robins and red winged black birds fill the air. Leafy greens are popping up in the raised beds and trees are newly leafed out. The standing stones are bathing their feet in lush clover and reaching up to touch fresh June skies. The pond is alive with chirruping frogs and ripples made by sweet\, Driftless breezes. The paths draw you on to the winding way of the labyrinth\, the open chamber of the dolmen\, the intimacy of the Circle of Mystery\, and so much more. Curvilinear rows of arborvitae and spruce hug the land and shelter you as you immerse yourself in color\, light\, and movement.  \n\nThis is our very first plein air event and we are quite excited to welcome artists from near and far! We are excited about all the possibilities and creative wonder that will manifest from this connection. \n\nSo\, What is Plein Air Painting? \nEn Plein Air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and it describes the practice of artists painting outdoors with the subject directly in view rather than in a studio. Plein air artists work to capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light\, color and movement into their art. \nAccording to Wikipedia\, in the mid-19th century\, working in natural light became particularly important to various artists and schools of art (e.g. the Barbizon school\, Hudson River School\, and Impressionists). Wikipedia goes on to say French impressionist painters such as Monet\, Pissarro\, Cezanne\, Van Gogh and Renoir advocated plein air painting and much of their work was done outdoors. \nThere has been a recent revival of interest in plein air painting in the United States.
