SUMMARY:Full Moon Session in Sound at Kinstone
DESCRIPTION:Have you wondered what it is like at Kinstone at night? Here’s your chance to find out! \nAt this nighttime event\, you can watch the sunset\, relax with sacred sounds of Native American flutes\, rare Tibetan singing bowls\, and a full immersion Gong sound bath in the Great Stone Circle while the full moon rises\, then take a guided night-time walk around Kinstone in the moonlight!  Bring your favorite crystal with you to charge it up with all this high vibe energy! SUMMARY:First Sunrise of Autumn - Equinox Heart Alignment
DESCRIPTION:Autumn Equinox Morning Observance\nWatch the Sunrise Alignment Enlighten the Heart Stone \n\nJoin us to greet the first sunrise of Autumn! We will celebrate the Autumnal Equinox as we look to see the equinox sunrise alignment between sun and stone here at Kinstone!\n\nAutumn Equinox is an astronomically significant solar event. It occurs when the sun is midpoint in its journey from Summer Solstice to Winter Solstice. The sun appears to rise at due east and set at due west. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a harbinger of winter; a time for settling in for the season of rest\, rejuvenation and root work. \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunrise. Stand with us in The Three Witnesses sculpture as the sun aligns through the Equinox Window and highlights the Heart Stone. Come and see! \n\n\nWe will gather in the center of The Three Witnesses sculpture at Kinstone. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge (and the corn across the road!) and beams through the Equinox Window to light up the heart of the middle standing stone\, known as the “Heart Stone”. Given cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunrise\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. \nAfter our readings\, if the sun is visible\, participants may wish to look at the alignment through the Equinox Window\, see the heart highlighted in the Heart Stone\, sit in the light of the sun\, take photos\, and greet the sunrise. This gathering will last about 45 minutes to one hour. Actual sunrise is at 6:54am. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone and the fields and trees in our view\, the time we witness it is always several minutes later. \n\n\n\nCOST: Suggested Donation of $5/person – there will be a donation box at the event; No Registration Required \nDate: Tuesday\, September 22\, 2020   Time: 6:30am – 7:30am (at Sunrise) \nLocation: The Three Witnesses Sculpture at Kinstone \nDress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes\, jackets\, scarves\, hats and gloves if chilly! Bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on\, for your comfort\, if you wish. \nDue to COVID\, if this event is rained out we will NOT be able to move this event indoors. Therefore\, it will be cancelled if the weather is rainy. Watch this Kinstone website event page as well as the corresponding event page on Facebook for updates on cancellations due to weather. We will post cancellation notifications no later than 1 hour before the scheduled start time of the event. \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Autumnal Equinox is Tuesday\, September 22\, 2020 at 8:30 am CDT.  \nIMPORTANT: If you wish to wander the grounds of Kinstone please plan to pay regular admission as well. Thank you. \nPhoto Credit: Kristine Beck

SUMMARY:Last Sunset of Summer - Catch the Sun - Fall Equinox
DESCRIPTION:Autumn Equinox Evening Observance\nWatch the Sunset Alignment and Try to Catch the Sun! \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunset. Stand with us and the Enlightenment Stones (Atlas and Lancelot) as the sun aligns to shine through the perforations in Lancelot and cast a line of bright points of light onto Atlas. Come and see! \nCome celebrate the last sunset of Summer with us at Kinstone! Join us as we gather to observe the sunset alignment at Kinstone on the eve of the Fall (Autumnal) Equinox. We will gather near the stones known as Lancelot and Atlas for a short opening rite and reading.  Sunset is at 7:04pm according to the charts\, but is often a little earlier as seen from up on the ridge\, so we will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun shortly after the reading at 6:30! \nGiven fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sun light is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in the Wise One. Given cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunset\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! \nAutumnal Equinox is an astronomically significant solar event. SUMMARY:Night Sky Viewing - September
DESCRIPTION:Calling all FAMILIES! STARGAZERS! NIGHT SKY AFICIONADOS! Come out to see the stars at Kinstone! This is an outdoor experience offering connection with nature while gazing out into our cosmic neighborhood! \nJoin us for an informal\, and relatively independent night sky viewing at Kinstone! Bring your own binoculars\, your own telescope\, and your own star finding guides\, etc. We will spread out across the land and spend a couple of hours with our eyes to the sky. Think about downloading an app to your phone in advance of this event such as Google Sky Map or something similar that shows you what’s in the sky. We may have one or more amateur astronomers join us from the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society (LCAAS). SUMMARY:Finding A Way Forward In Uncertain Times ~ A Kinstone Experience
DESCRIPTION:FYI: Due to bad weather predicted for Saturday\, Sept 12\, we have postponed this event to Sunday\, Sept 13.\nSPECIAL NOTE Regarding COVID: THIS OFFERING IS STILL ON! We will run this mostly outdoor retreat experience with a limited number of participants to allow for proper social distancing and personal space both indoors and out. The land is lush and lovely\, the stones are standing in a sea of green\, the grasses are touched with gold – just waiting for you!\nJoin us for this one-day guided retreat and gift yourself some time to contemplate the thresholds opening up to new pathways in your life. \nKinstone has been described as a “threshold place”\, a place where we find ourselves called to slow down enough to notice the many openings in our lives where we are invited to cross into a new or renewed way of being in the world. Our world is in a massive transition. What has been “normal” is fading. New ways and ideas are begging to be seen and embraced. \nToday we will spend time with the land and sacred stone places here\, mostly in silence\, contemplating the thresholds that are appearing in our lives and seeking wisdom from our higher selves about how to step into these openings to find a (new) way forward. \nWhat Thresholds are you standing on today? How do you find the courage to take the first step to enter into this new way? What is calling to you? What has been bubbling up in you amidst the global pandemic of 2020? What about other global\, national\, local or personal challenges and issues?  What are you longing for? Meaning? Peace? Wholeness? Stability? \nImmersed in the sacred spaces around Kinstone\, inspired by prompts and symbols\, with pen and paper\, colored pencils or crayons\, we will seek to express our soul’s wisdom in a way we can hear it\, see it and apply it to our lives. Don’t expect to understand all that is revealed right away\, soul talk takes time! \nDue to our current pandemic environment – we ask you to bring your own bag lunch and drinking cup. Water and tea will be provided.  Also\, you may want to bring a lawn chair\, or blanket to sit on. \nGeneral Schedule (subject to change) \n9:00 …… Gathering / Introductions \n9:30 …… Opening Ritual \n10:00 …. First Question / Contemplation \n11:30 ….. Group discussion \n12:00 …. Break for Lunch \n1:00 …… Second Question / Contemplation \n2:30 …… Group discussion \n3:30 …… Closing Ritual / Blessings \nThere will be ample time throughout the day for participants to experience the sacred landscape and intentional spaces at Kinstone to inspire your body\, mind and spirit. \nPre-registration is required\, as space is limited. This retreat experience is expected to fill. \nDate:  Sunday\, September 13\, 2020  Saturday\, September 12\, 2020 \nTime: 9:00am to 4:00pm (plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early!) \nCost: $65 \nREGISTER HERE:  Finding a Way Forward tickets \nLimited attendance! Sign up early to reserve your spot. No refunds. \nWhat to bring: \n\nA willingness to be open and creative\nA blanket or pillow to sit on\, and/or a camp chair to carry with you to outside sit spots if you wish\, for your comfort\nYour own water bottle / travel mug. Note: water\, coffee and tea will be provided; bring your own water bottle/travel mug to drink from. This is a sustainable practice we promote for all events at Kinstone. If you forget yours\, don’t worry\, we’ve got you covered!\nAs we will be outdoors for this retreat\, dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes!\n\nAbout your Guides for this Retreat Day: \nChar Peterson: \nChar worked as a Hospice Chaplain for GHS. Her lifelong ministry has been to listen\, encourage and uplifting the beauty around each of our life stories.  She holds a Master’s degree in Theology and a Certificate of Pastoral Ministry from St. Catherine University in St. Paul\, MN and completed her training in chaplaincy at Gundersen Health System in 2013-2014. \nKristine Beck: \nKristine is the creator and director of Kinstone in Fountain City\, Wisconsin. An entrepreneur at heart\, she returned to her family land to build Kinstone after a successful career in the software industry. Kristine has now dedicated her life to blending conscious care of the Earth with art to form sacred spaces at Kinstone that invite and inspire people to experience the life-giving power of the land to transform\, energize and revive the body\, mind and spirit. \nRefund Policy:  There are no refunds. SUMMARY:Singing & Bowls at Sunset
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a meditative music experience in the Great Stone Circle at sunset. Ageless sounds of singing bowls blended with chant and song. It promises to be an evening of resonance and contemplative peace. \nTraditional historic singing bowls produce sounds that invoke deep states of relaxation; naturally assisting one in entering expanded states of consciousness and meditation. The sound of the bowls creates a deep level of communication with our inner world that opens us to the divine.  The sounds and vibrations of Tibetan singing bowls opens blockages and helps us experience an inner calm and deep relaxation to invigorate our natural energy thus allowing our body-mind-spirit to quiet and find balance. \nThomas Roberts will lead us for this evening of captivating renewal by calling forth the ageless bell sounds from the bowls. Karen Lee will sing or chant with the bowls. At times you may hear influences from the Native American cultures that are an integral part of her life experience and spirituality. Experience the power and beauty of traditional Tibetan singing bowls and the blending tones of Karen’s voice as we watch the sunset. \nDuring this performance at Kinstone one can expect the unexpected … vocal spontaneity and improvisation from the heart\, intertwined with the vibrational voices of the Singing Bowls.  Prepare to be opened to deep relaxation and meditation in the presence of sacred sound. Come join Us!! \nIMPORTANT: This is a non-smoking\, alcohol free\, kid-friendly event. \nDue to COVID\, we will not move this event indoors. Therefore\, if we cancel the event due to bad weather\, your ticket will be refunded; otherwise\, there are NO REFUNDS. \nCancellation notices will be posted not later than one hour before the scheduled start time of the event; they will be posted here on the website as well as on Facebook on the corresponding event page. \nDate:  Saturday\, August 22\, 2020  Time:  7:00pm   (Note: Sunset is at 7:58pm.) \nTickets:  $15.00 in advance\, $20.00 at the door. Kids 12 & under are FREE but must be accompanied by an adult with a paid ticket for the event. No refunds unless cancelled due to weather. \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE:  Singing & Bowls at Sunset Tickets (your printed receipt is required for entry) \nPay at the door is possible and must be in cash and exact change! Advanced payment is preferred. \nBring your own chair or blanket to sit on for your comfort. Wear comfortable clothing and dress for the weather! Bring your own insect repellent and/or sunscreen if needed. A flashlight may be helpful if you stay until dark. Park in designated parking areas. Upon arrival\, proceed directly to the Great Stone Circle. \n\nThomas Roberts \nThomas (“Tom”) Roberts has gained widespread recognition in the field of health and healing as an and educator\, speaker and author who translates ancient mindfulness techniques into practical strategies that people can use in their everyday lives to be healthier\, happier\, and more fulfilled. Tom has nearly 50 years of experience as a licensed clinical psychotherapist. He has been an adjunct professor at Viterbo University in La Crosse\, WI and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud\, MN\, where he has taught mind-body healing\, integrative medicine and other mindfulness related topics. He has been a practicing Zen Buddhist for nearly 50 years. In 1992 he received lay Buddhist vows from Thich Nhat Hanh. Based in La Crosse\, Wisconsin\, Tom offers contemplative and meditation retreats and workshops at centers locally and throughout the United States. He is the author of The Mindfulness Workbook: A guide to overcoming fear and embracing compassion (New Harbinger Press\, 2009). \n  \nKaren Lee \nVocalist Karen Lee has been crooning for a lifetime.  Originally a La Crosse native\, Karen has returned home after spending 20 years in Portland and La Grande OR\, and nearly a decade in NYC. Karen’s passion for singing has led her down various musical avenues. Her musical career began as folk singer/songwriter in the 70’s\, which evolved into country rock\, blues and swing\, rhythm and blues\, and later into jazz and improvisation. In her early musical adventures\, Karen laid down many miles of life on the road. Embracing cultural diversity and life’s experiences enhanced Karen’s musical expression as a vocal soloist.  And she has been a frequent band member who has often arranged and sang intricate harmonies.  All of her travels gave rise to live performances\, recordings and many other musical opportunities. Karen’s vocal sound continues to evolve. Her voice has been described as that of a rich and sultry ballad and blues singer that can belt out a strong as sassy R&B tune yet is able to sing the intimate style of a bossa nova.

SUMMARY:Summer Plein Air Art Exhibition & Sale
DESCRIPTION:Kinstone-inspired plein air painting Art Exhibit and Sale! \nArtists of every painting medium and every skill level were invited to create plein air works at our Summer Plein Air Paint Day & Art Sale on Saturday\, August 1\, 2020 – yesterday! (See below for details about what “plein air” is.) Today we get a chance to see an exhibition of the works of the participating artists and even purchase a new piece! The art will be exhibited outside of the Kinstone Education Center and on the Porch. A portion of the sales will be retained by Kinstone to help support additional art events here. COME SUPPORT THE ARTISTS AND KINSTONE! \nJoin us today\, talk with the artists and find something new\, fresh\, and Kinstone-inspired to take home with you! Keep in mind that artists must remove their artwork by 6:30pm on Sunday\, August 2. \nKinstone will maintain its normal open hours (10am to 6pm) to the public throughout this event. Anyone visiting Kinstone on this day (general admission is $5/person) is invited to interact with the artists\, browse the exhibits and perhaps even purchase a new piece to take home! \nDate:  Sunday\, August 2\, 2020 \nTime: 10:00am to 6:00pm \nCost:  Included in the price of admission to Kinstone – $5/person! \nLocation: Kinstone Megalithic Garden\, S3439 Cole Bluff Lane\, Fountain City\, WI \nThis event shall take place rain or shine! \n\nSo\, What is Plein Air Painting? \nEn Plein Air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and it describes the practice of artists painting outdoors with the subject directly in view rather than in a studio. Plein air artists work to capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light\, color and movement into their art. \nAccording to Wikipedia\, in the mid-19th century\, working in natural light became particularly important to various artists and schools of art (e.g. the Barbizon school\, Hudson River School\, and Impressionists). Wikipedia goes on to say French impressionist painters such as Monet\, Pissarro\, Cezanne\, Van Gogh and Renoir advocated plein air painting and much of their work was done outdoors. \nThere has been a recent revival of interest in plein air painting in the United States. Groups of plein air artists have begun gathering together to paint at single locations or within certain geographic boundaries giving them a chance to share their talents and creativity with the public and with one another. \nFind out more about plein air painting and related events by visiting any of the following websites: \nWisconsin Plein Air Painters Association (WIPAPA) \nOutdoor Painters of Minnesota (OPM) \nPlein Air Painters of America (PAPA)

We are excited about all the possibilities and creative wonder that will manifest from this connection. \n\nSo\, What is Plein Air Painting? \nEn Plein Air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and it describes the practice of artists painting outdoors with the subject directly in view rather than in a studio. We average about 20 women at our circles. Sometimes less\, sometimes more. We’ve had as few as 3 and as many as 42 show up! It begins each year with an event in conjunction with International Women’s Day (March 8) and continues each month on the day of the New Moon through October! \nIn circle\, we join in a short heart meditation\, then we have a time for personal sharing – feelings\, questions\, truths\, stories\, poems\, and more. In this space we are free to celebrate our individuality as well as our collective strength\, fearlessness\, nurturing\, healing and gifts. Typically – in a non-Covid world – we end with a shared meal and informal conversations around the tables. Now\, everyone must bring their own meal and we’ll enjoy it outdoors at a good distance. Come as you are. It is free to participate. Join us! Please share these events with other women who may be interested. Thank you! \nKinstone has some amazing sacred spaces and we like to use them as much as possible. We may gather in the large Stone Circle\, Three Witnesses circle\, Star Gazer Circle\, Circle of Mystery or other outdoor sacred place at Kinstone (weather permitting). If weather is uncooperative\, we meet in our beautiful classroom space in the Education Center. \nFor more information\, please see the following links which are inspirational and instrumental in the organization of our circle: internationalwomensday.com and globalsisterhood.org \nLIST OF DATES AND THEMES \nPlease note that we will update our website each month with specific event information for the monthly New Moon gathering. Specific reflections are made available about 1 to 2 weeks prior to each meeting date. We also create a Facebook event each month that announces the theme and more information. Check out our published events on the Kinstone Circle Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/kinstonecircle/. \nUpcoming 2020 Kinstone Women’s Circle Event Dates: \nMonday\, July 20 – Cancer:  theme to be announced! SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Sunrise Observance 2020
DESCRIPTION:6/21/20 4:15am update: There is heavy mist on the ridge\, but I will be in the circle to see what happens at sunrise. Any who can join\, please do – and drive carefully in this fog! \n6/20/20 4:15am update: THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN! So sorry we cannot meet the sun today in the Circle! Happy Solstice! p.s. if the weather holds promise tomorrow\, we will meet on 6/21/20 at 5:15 instead!  \nEvery Summer Solstice\, we stand and greet the sun as it enters the Great Stone Circle at sunrise. You are invited to join us as we recognize the passing of the seasons from Spring to Summer in this auspicious and sacred stone place. \nIf it is not raining we will gather at 5:15 am in the Great Stone Circle in time to witness the rising of the sun – actual sunrise is at 5:23am but it is usually 5:30 before it visible in the stone circle. Due to COVID\, we prefer not to meet indoors\, so\, if it is raining\, we will CANCEL the event. \nGiven fair weather and a clear horizon\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and is ushered through the Summer Solstice Corridor into the circle. It will set its golden glow upon anyone standing in the middle of the circle. Further\, it will cast the shadow of those persons standing there onto the stone directly in the path of the sun – the “Shadow Stone”.  Fun fact: This stone also marks the exact point of WINTER Solstice SUNSET\, i.e.  summer solstice sunrise and winter solstice sunset occur along the exact same line!  Truly magical! \nGiven cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunrise or the shadow\, but will greet the dawn of Summer ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. Feel free to bring a reading or quote to share. Witness the arrival of Summer. Send Spring on its way with blessings. Although the actual sunrise is at 5:23am\, the topography of Kinstone means it will be just a little (about 8-10 minutes) later than that. Be there early\, just in case! Feel free to arrive as early as 5:00am if you wish. We will NOT meet afterwards for refreshments due to COVID. \nCOST: Suggested Donation of $5/person (place in Blue Payment Box on the Information Sign Boards near the parking areas); No Registration Required \nDate: Saturday\, June 20\, 2020  Time: 5:15am – 6:15am \nThis event is outdoors. It will be CANCELLED if raining. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, rain\, or clouds. If it is raining or storming this event will be cancelled. Dress for the weather\, be prepared to walk dewy\, wet grass paths; bring a blanket or camp chair if you wish for your comfort outside; wear appropriate footwear\, scarves\, hats\, and even gloves if needed! Bring your own insect repellent if you wish! \nCancellation will occur in case of a RAIN. Cancellations will be posted ONLY on THIS event page and on the corresponding Facebook event page at least 1 hour before the scheduled start time for this event. \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Summer Solstice is Saturday\, June 20 at 4:43 pm CDT.  \nIMPORTANT: If you wish to wander the grounds of Kinstone please plan to pay regular admission. Thank you. \nPhoto credit: Kristine Beck

Early prairie flowers are in bloom\, butterflies are out\, and choruses of robins and red winged black birds fill the air. Leafy greens are popping up in the raised beds and trees are newly leafed out. The standing stones are bathing their feet in lush clover and reaching up to touch fresh June skies. The pond is alive with chirruping frogs and ripples made by sweet\, Driftless breezes. The paths draw you on to the winding way of the labyrinth\, the open chamber of the dolmen\, the intimacy of the Circle of Mystery\, and so much more. Curvilinear rows of arborvitae and spruce hug the land and shelter you as you immerse yourself in color\, light\, and movement.  \n\nThis is our very first plein air event and we are quite excited to welcome artists from near and far! Do you love painting outdoors? Are you inspired by the beauty of Nature? Do the standing stones and sacred\, intentional spaces of Kinstone intrigue you? Join us! Note that we also have Summer and Autumn Plein Air paint days coming up later this season\, each has slightly different details\, so please check out those events and plan to participate then\, too! \nKinstone is a contemplative\, park-like place with spectacular views\, intriguing stonework\, and natural buildings. This stunning 30-acre bluff-top property has a fabulous view of the Mississippi River as well as over 100 standing stones including three stone circles\, megalithic dolmen\, classic 7-circuit labyrinth\, thatched\, cordwood chapel\, dry-stack stone sculpture\, natural buildings\, food forest gardens\, raised bed gardens\, 2-acre prairie\, pond\, woodlands\, fields and more. \n\nOur mission states: “Kinstone blends conscious care of the Earth with art to form sacred spaces that invite and inspire people to connect with and experience the creative power of the land to transform\, energize and revive the body\, mind and spirit.” To further this mission\, we are offering three Plein Air Paint Days in 2020 to connect artists and the sacred beauty of the land: Spring\, Summer\, and Autumn – each one with slightly different details.

SUMMARY:Beginner's Eye: A Contemplative Photography Experience
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL NOTE Regarding COVID: THIS CLASS IS STILL ON! We are planning to run this mostly outdoor course with a limited class size to allow for proper social distancing and personal space both indoors and out. The land is lush and lovely\, the stones are standing in a sea of green – just waiting for you to come see it anew with your eyes and camera lens!\nExplore how the lens of a camera can allow us to see things in ways that we may have otherwise missed.\nJoin us for this fun\, contemplative/meditation experience that utilizes photography to slow us down and enable us to see our world in novel and original ways. Beginner’s Eye allows us to uncover shape\, color\, texture and beauty that are normally hidden from view. No photographic experience necessary!! \nBeginner’s Eye is based on the Zen notion of  “beginner’s mind” – that open and spacious place when we are completely receptive\, fearless\, totally present and connected to the wonder of each moment. This practice offers a pure\, clear\, seeing where everything is fresh and new. \nCultivating Beginner’s Eye deepens our connection with our true selves and the world around us. You do not need to be a photographer in order to practice contemplative photography. Contemplative photography is not a type of photography as is\, for example\, landscape or macro photography. It is not about having the right lens or the best camera\, or following guidelines about composition and light\, but rather\, it is about the interaction of our inner being with the object in the viewfinder. Using the camera as an extension of our inner vision\, contemplative photography focuses our attention and holds our awareness\, making it a mindful act and a way to nourish within us the integral practice of abiding mindfulness. \nThe open\, sacred landscape and intentional spaces at Kinstone make it a perfect place for a day of focused attention on awareness and vision. It is not about what you see; rather how you see it. Practicing seeing with a “beginner’s eye” will help you notice things in the world as if seeing them for the first time. This experience can be profoundly life changing. \nPre-registration is required\, as space is limited. The workshop is expected to fill. \nDate: Saturday\, June 13\, 2020 \nTime: 9:00am to 6:00pm (plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early!) \nCost: \n~ $65 EARLY BIRD – must register by May 15\n~ $75 after May 15 \nAdmission fee includes instruction and lunch.  A vegetarian lunch will be provided with options suitable for vegan\, dairy free and gluten free dietary requirements or preferences. No refunds. \nREGISTER HERE:  Beginner’s Eye Tickets \nLimited attendance! Sign up early to reserve your spot. No refunds. \nAdditional details: This course will be held Rain or Shine. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes. \nDescription: \nThe morning is a time of learning through an introduction\, meditation\, and initial practice time. The afternoon begins with time outside creating photographs. Mid-afternoon we will settle down with the images we gathered and work on writing our own Haiku poetry to complement one or more of our photos. While the instructor prepares a slideshow of selected photos and Haiku from each participant\, the participants will have free time to walk about Kinstone. We gather again to enjoy the final slideshow featuring everyone’s work and wrap up with discussion and sharing. \nGeneral Schedule \n– What is Beginner’s Eye and what does photography have to do with it\n– Slideshow of examples of Beginner’s Eye photography\n– Meditations on seeing with clarity: Letting go of fears\, judgments\, expectations\n– The world through the viewfinder: Practice how to see\n– Haiku: simple\, short form poetry; word-play inspired by images\n– Lunch break\n– Heading out with our camera to see with clear eyes and mind\n– Return: Time to contemplate our photographs and compose haikus\n– Choose 1 or more photographs and accompanying Haikus for the group slideshow\n– Walk about Kinstone while the slideshow is prepared\n– Slideshow!\n– Discussion and Closure \nNote: This is a contemplative retreat day in which you bring along a camera (even a cell phone camera is fine!) and take photos of what you see. To be clear\, this is not a photography workshop\, i.e.\, no photographic techniques will be taught. No photographic experience is necessary; however\, if you have photographic experience you may find the practice of Beginner’s Eye enhances your work and your new awareness may manifest itself in your photographs. \nWhat to bring: \n\nA willingness to be open and creative\nA digital camera; if you have an DSLR\, bring only one lens\, and yes\, point-and-shoot cameras and even cell phone cameras are perfectly acceptable (NOTE: if your camera or phone has a data transfer cable\, please bring it along as it can be helpful to get your photos transferred to a designated computer for the final slide show.)\nDress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes\nA blanket or pillow to sit on\, if you wish\, for your comfort; chairs will be available to all\nYour own water bottle / travel mug. Note: water\, coffee and tea will be provided; and we encourage you to bring your own water bottle/travel mug to drink from. This is a sustainable practice we promote for all events at Kinstone. If you forget yours\, don’t worry\, we’ve got you covered!\n\nAbout your instructor: Thomas Roberts \nThomas (“Tom”) Roberts has nearly 50 years of experience as a licensed clinical psychotherapist. \nFor the past 4 decades\, Tom has used a camera to hone his ability to see the beauty of our world. He has become\, in his words\, an “advanced amateur photographer” and has learned to portray the wonder of the ordinary in ways that become extraordinary through photographs. Further\, he has practiced writing haiku\, a short form of Japanese poetry based on simple\, yet often profound\, observations of the everyday world\, to go with his photos. \nHis “Beginners Eye” approach draws on his personal experience of contemplative photography as a spiritual practice  and the innate wonder of the world to help us develop our capacity of seeing and reconnecting with our true selves and our own intimate relationship to the world in which we live. \n  \nRefund Policy:  There are no refunds. If you sign up and then determine you cannot attend; you may offer your spot to another individual if you wish.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED! Winter Tree Identification with Dr. Cynthia Lane

We plan to host this course again in winter of 2021. Stay up to date with our events and classes by visiting our CALENDAR PAGE often and/or by SIGNING UP to receive our email updates.\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for this 3-hour hands-on experience and learn how to identify 25+ native trees solely by their winter characteristics like bark\, branches\, buds and scent. \nThis course is for ANYONE but may especially appeal to herbalists\, biologists\, botanists\, life sciences students\, farmers\, homesteaders\, permaculturists\, homeowners\, park goers\, hikers\, nature lovers\, tree lovers and any who wish to get to know the trees a bit better. \nEver wonder how to tell oak from ash\, or more importantly\, ash from boxelder\, when cutting firewood in the winter? Do you know trees well enough to find the oaks where hen-of-the-woods mushrooms are found\, elms where morels might grow\, or food and medicinal trees like basswood and black cherry in early spring? \nLearning trees in the dormant season is ideal because tree bark\, branches and buds are easily visible\, and once you learn tree identification in the winter\, it will be a snap when you come back in the summer and you can use their leaves to id them as well! \nThis course includes an introduction to tree identification in the classroom followed by a group walk to find\, observe\, and identify trees in the woodlands of Kinstone. Participants receive a summary handout that describes bark\, bud\, form\, habitat and other identification tips. \nDate: Saturday\, March 28 \nTime: 1:00pm to 4:00pm (plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early!) \nCost:  $30   No Refunds! \nREGISTRATION / TICKETS:  CANCELLED!  \nLevel: Beginner to intermediate \nLimited attendance! It occurs when the sun is midpoint in its journey from Winter Solstice to Summer Solstice. The sun appears to rise at due east and set at due west. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a harbinger of spring; a time for new beginnings\, growth\, and seeking the joy of the light. \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunrise. Stand with us in The Three Witnesses sculpture as the sun aligns through the Equinox Window and highlights the Heart Stone. Come and see! \nCOST: admission to Kinstone ($5/person) Place your admission in the Blue Payment Box attached to the Information Sign Board near the parking areas. No Registration Required \nDate: Friday\, March 20   Time: 6:30am \nActual sunrise is expected at 7:08am for our location. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the time we witness it may be just a bit later! Come at 6:30 to enjoy the predawn colors and our brief program before the sun rises! \n\n\n This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to welcome Spring. After the reading\, if the sun is visible\, participants may wish to watch the alignment through the Equinox Window\, see the heart highlighted in the center stone Witness\, sit in the light of the sun\, take photos\, and greet the sunrise. \nDress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, jackets\, scarves\, hats and gloves! Bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on\, for your comfort\, if you wish. Be prepared for it to be breezy and cool up here on the ridge! \nThis event is outdoors and will be held only in good weather. In light of COVID-19\, for everyone’s health and safety\, we will NOT gather indoors for any portion of this program and no indoor social time or refreshments will be offered. If it is raining or very overcast\, this event will be cancelled. \nCancellation will occur in case of overcast\, rainy or stormy weather. Cancellations will be posted ONLY on THIS event page and on the corresponding Facebook event page at least 1 hour before the scheduled start time for this event. \n\nHAPPY SPRING! \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Vernal Equinox is Thursday\, March 19\, 2020\, at 10:49pm CDT.  \nPhoto credit: Kristine Beck

SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Last Sunset of Winter - Spring Equinox Observance
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE 3/19/2020: This event is CANCELLED due to rainy\, misty\, heavily overcast weather that is not conducive to an outdoor gathering to witness the sunset alignment here at Kinstone. Please STAY HOME\, STAY HEALTHY and STAY BALANCED! Happy Equinox to all!  \nUPDATE 3/15/2020: This event is STILL ON and will remain so as long as the weather is good and there are no further mandates regarding COVID-19! The Education Center will NOT be open during this event! There will be no available restroom facilities or place to get warm. Come prepared! \nSpring Equinox Evening Observance\nWatch the Sunset Alignment and Try to Catch the Sun! \nWe will say farewell to Winter as we watch its last sunset together just hours before the actual celestial event. Join us to celebrate the warming of the Earth and the long awaited time for putting out new growth from the long winter’s root work that has been underway. \nSpring (Vernal) Equinox is an astronomically significant solar event. \nCOST: admission to Kinstone ($5/person) (place your admission in the Blue Payment Box attached to the Information Sign Board near the parking areas); No Registration Required \nDate: Thursday\, March 19   Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm \nActual sunset is expected at 7:18pm for our location. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the time we witness it is always just a bit earlier than expected! Come at 6:30 and enjoy the last light of winter before the sun sets! \n\n\nThis will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to send Winter off with a flourish. Given fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sunlight is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in Lancelot. We will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun immediately after our readings. If the sun is visible\, participants may wish to try to “catch the sun”\, take photos\, and watch the sun go down as we say farewell to Winter. During this event\, guests who have signed up will be invited\, in order of sign-up time\, to catch the sun as and if weather and sunlight conditions permit. As many as we can get through will be given a chance to be photographed with their hands catching the sun – bring a friend who can be your photographer! \n\nHAPPY SPRING! \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Vernal Equinox is Thursday\, March 19\, 2020\, at 10:49pm CDT.  \nPhoto credit: Kristine Beck

What’s going on in your world? Come connect with us! SUMMARY:VIRTUAL EVENT! February New Moon REFLECTIONS
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT: This is NOT an actual event and will not be held at any designated place and time. Please do not come to Kinstone for this virtual event.\n\n\n \n\n\nTHIS IS A VIRTUAL EVENT\, a PLACEHOLDER FOR YOU for the February New Moon – please use the theme and information below to help you celebrate and  honor the new moon from your own place\, on your own time\, and in your own way this month!\n\n\nFebruary Theme: Feminine Intelligence: I trust my intuitive wisdom. \nAstrology: Pisces (Water sign) ruled by Jupiter and Neptune. \nKeywords: Fluid\, ethereal\, mystical\, imaginative\, intuitive\, dreamer\, empathic\, emotional\, gentle\, loving\, soulful\, devoted\, psychic\, emotional\, feeling\, tender\, kind\, altruistic \n\nThe following is summarized from resources provided by our sisters at the Global Sisterhood: \n“This new moon in Pisces is a powerful time of honoring our emotions as old karmic lessons surface to be released by Mercury in Retrograde. Pisces’ watery waves bring with it a profoundly deep opportunity for learning how to move through our triggers with deep self-love and self-compassion. \nThis new moon brings with it incredible synchronicities\, including repeating numbers\, animal messengers\, and internal sensations that are here to guide you. Trust in the guidance that is appearing at this time\, and follow it like you never have before! This new moon brings an initiation into feminine wisdom for all who open to receive it. Intentionally tuning into this new moon can bring you to new depths of inner-knowing\, connection with the Divine\, and trust in yourself and in life. \nPut your big dreams into action\, and work towards them in harmony with your inner guidance. Now is a powerful time to practice radical empathy by putting yourself in the shoes of others and letting go of your own grudges\, judgments\, and comparisons that keep you feeling separate. Now is the time to connect and reconnect with others from a new perspective. \nTake this new moon as an opportunity to release anxiety that feels like it takes control of your life and leaves you feeling stressed and uninspired. Any time you remember to stop\, breathe\, feel compassion for yourself\, and exhale stress — take it. The new moon supports you in your healing and releasing. \nMake your choices and act on them! Choose to allow your body’s wisdom\, and life’s guidance\, to unfold. Compassion\, empathy\, and cooperation are supported and highlighted by this new moon — and it is a powerful time to let go of any doubt you have in your intuition or emotions. The energy of Pisces holds within it incredible feminine wisdom\, so this time is also ideal to cultivate your spiritual connection. \nWhen you connect with yourself and with the Divine\, you are cultivating the most important connections that will guide you on your path. This new moon is gifting you with a golden opportunity to learn to feel your own gifts and superpowers. This wisdom will illuminate your path. Trust it!” \nReflection prompts: \n\nThink of a situation in your life when your intuition was right on. Did you follow it? Did you go against it? What happened?\nHow would the world be different if our leaders chose to follow their hearts and listen to Feminine Intelligence when making decisions?\nHave you ever experienced a gut feeling\, known you feel the presence of a higher truth\, or felt the presence of guides or angels? What are the sensations you get when you KNOW something is right? What about when you know something is wrong?\nIn the last few months\, have you been listening to your intuitive feelings and your emotions? Have you been prioritizing Masculine Intelligence over Feminine Intelligence?\nClose your eyes for a moment. What does your intuition have to tell you right now?\nCreate your own prompt…\n\nUpcoming 2020 Kinstone Women’s Circle Event Dates: \nSunday\, March 8 – International Women’s Day:  #EachforEqual: An equal world is an enabled world. \nVIRTUAL EVENT!  Tuesday\, March 24 – Aries: Fierce Love: I stand in my power with clear boundaries \nWednesday\, April 22 – Taurus: Redefining Beauty: My body\, my rules \nFriday\, May 22 – Gemini: Free the Voice: I speak my truth \nSunday\, June 21 (Father’s Day) – Cancer: Liberation Through Forgiveness: I let go\, I set myself free \nMonday\, July 20 – Cancer:  theme to be announced!
