SUMMARY:Beginner's Eye: A Contemplative Photography Experience
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL NOTE Regarding COVID: THIS CLASS IS STILL ON! We are planning to run this mostly outdoor course with a limited class size to allow for proper social distancing and personal space both indoors and out. The land is lush and lovely\, the stones are standing in a sea of green – just waiting for you to come see it anew with your eyes and camera lens!\nExplore how the lens of a camera can allow us to see things in ways that we may have otherwise missed.\nJoin us for this fun\, contemplative/meditation experience that utilizes photography to slow us down and enable us to see our world in novel and original ways. Beginner’s Eye allows us to uncover shape\, color\, texture and beauty that are normally hidden from view. No photographic experience necessary!! \nBeginner’s Eye is based on the Zen notion of  “beginner’s mind” – that open and spacious place when we are completely receptive\, fearless\, totally present and connected to the wonder of each moment. This practice offers a pure\, clear\, seeing where everything is fresh and new. \nCultivating Beginner’s Eye deepens our connection with our true selves and the world around us. You do not need to be a photographer in order to practice contemplative photography. Contemplative photography is not a type of photography as is\, for example\, landscape or macro photography. It is not about having the right lens or the best camera\, or following guidelines about composition and light\, but rather\, it is about the interaction of our inner being with the object in the viewfinder. Using the camera as an extension of our inner vision\, contemplative photography focuses our attention and holds our awareness\, making it a mindful act and a way to nourish within us the integral practice of abiding mindfulness. \nThe open\, sacred landscape and intentional spaces at Kinstone make it a perfect place for a day of focused attention on awareness and vision. It is not about what you see; rather how you see it. Practicing seeing with a “beginner’s eye” will help you notice things in the world as if seeing them for the first time. This experience can be profoundly life changing. \nPre-registration is required\, as space is limited. The workshop is expected to fill. \nDate: Saturday\, June 13\, 2020 \nTime: 9:00am to 6:00pm (plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early!) \nCost: \n~ $65 EARLY BIRD – must register by May 15\n~ $75 after May 15 \nAdmission fee includes instruction and lunch.  A vegetarian lunch will be provided with options suitable for vegan\, dairy free and gluten free dietary requirements or preferences. No refunds. \nREGISTER HERE:  Beginner’s Eye Tickets \nLimited attendance! Sign up early to reserve your spot. No refunds. \nAdditional details: This course will be held Rain or Shine. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes. \nDescription: \nThe morning is a time of learning through an introduction\, meditation\, and initial practice time. The afternoon begins with time outside creating photographs. Mid-afternoon we will settle down with the images we gathered and work on writing our own Haiku poetry to complement one or more of our photos. While the instructor prepares a slideshow of selected photos and Haiku from each participant\, the participants will have free time to walk about Kinstone. We gather again to enjoy the final slideshow featuring everyone’s work and wrap up with discussion and sharing. \nGeneral Schedule \n– What is Beginner’s Eye and what does photography have to do with it\n– Slideshow of examples of Beginner’s Eye photography\n– Meditations on seeing with clarity: Letting go of fears\, judgments\, expectations\n– The world through the viewfinder: Practice how to see\n– Haiku: simple\, short form poetry; word-play inspired by images\n– Lunch break\n– Heading out with our camera to see with clear eyes and mind\n– Return: Time to contemplate our photographs and compose haikus\n– Choose 1 or more photographs and accompanying Haikus for the group slideshow\n– Walk about Kinstone while the slideshow is prepared\n– Slideshow!\n– Discussion and Closure \nNote: This is a contemplative retreat day in which you bring along a camera (even a cell phone camera is fine!) and take photos of what you see. To be clear\, this is not a photography workshop\, i.e.\, no photographic techniques will be taught. No photographic experience is necessary; however\, if you have photographic experience you may find the practice of Beginner’s Eye enhances your work and your new awareness may manifest itself in your photographs. \nWhat to bring: \n\nA willingness to be open and creative\nA digital camera; if you have an DSLR\, bring only one lens\, and yes\, point-and-shoot cameras and even cell phone cameras are perfectly acceptable (NOTE: if your camera or phone has a data transfer cable\, please bring it along as it can be helpful to get your photos transferred to a designated computer for the final slide show.)\nDress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes\nA blanket or pillow to sit on\, if you wish\, for your comfort; chairs will be available to all\nYour own water bottle / travel mug. Note: water\, coffee and tea will be provided; and we encourage you to bring your own water bottle/travel mug to drink from. This is a sustainable practice we promote for all events at Kinstone. If you forget yours\, don’t worry\, we’ve got you covered!\n\nAbout your instructor: Thomas Roberts \nThomas (“Tom”) Roberts has nearly 50 years of experience as a licensed clinical psychotherapist. He has been an adjunct professor at Viterbo University in La Crosse\, WI and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud\, MN\, where he has taught mind-body healing\, integrative medicine and other mindfulness related topics. He has been a practicing Zen Buddhist for nearly 50 years. In 1992 he received lay Buddhist vows from Thich Nhat Hanh. Based in La Crosse\, Wisconsin\, Tom offers contemplative and meditation retreats and workshops at centers locally and throughout the United States. He is the author of The Mindfulness Workbook: A guide to overcoming fear and embracing compassion (New Harbinger Press\, 2009). \nFor the past 4 decades\, Tom has used a camera to hone his ability to see the beauty of our world. He has become\, in his words\, an “advanced amateur photographer” and has learned to portray the wonder of the ordinary in ways that become extraordinary through photographs. Further\, he has practiced writing haiku\, a short form of Japanese poetry based on simple\, yet often profound\, observations of the everyday world\, to go with his photos. \nHis “Beginners Eye” approach draws on his personal experience of contemplative photography as a spiritual practice  and the innate wonder of the world to help us develop our capacity of seeing and reconnecting with our true selves and our own intimate relationship to the world in which we live. \n  \nRefund Policy:  There are no refunds. If you sign up and then determine you cannot attend; you may offer your spot to another individual if you wish.

It occurs when the sun is midpoint in its journey from Winter Solstice to Summer Solstice. The sun appears to rise at due east and set at due west. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a harbinger of spring; a time for new beginnings\, growth\, and seeking the joy of the light. \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunrise. Stand with us in The Three Witnesses sculpture as the sun aligns through the Equinox Window and highlights the Heart Stone. Come and see! \nCOST: admission to Kinstone ($5/person) Place your admission in the Blue Payment Box attached to the Information Sign Board near the parking areas. No Registration Required \nDate: Friday\, March 20   Time: 6:30am \nActual sunrise is expected at 7:08am for our location. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the time we witness it may be just a bit later! Come at 6:30 to enjoy the predawn colors and our brief program before the sun rises! \n\n\n This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to welcome Spring. After the reading\, if the sun is visible\, participants may wish to watch the alignment through the Equinox Window\, see the heart highlighted in the center stone Witness\, sit in the light of the sun\, take photos\, and greet the sunrise. \nDress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, jackets\, scarves\, hats and gloves! Bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on\, for your comfort\, if you wish. Be prepared for it to be breezy and cool up here on the ridge! \nThis event is outdoors and will be held only in good weather. In light of COVID-19\, for everyone’s health and safety\, we will NOT gather indoors for any portion of this program and no indoor social time or refreshments will be offered. Come prepared! \nSpring Equinox Evening Observance\nWatch the Sunset Alignment and Try to Catch the Sun! \nWe will say farewell to Winter as we watch its last sunset together just hours before the actual celestial event. Join us to celebrate the warming of the Earth and the long awaited time for putting out new growth from the long winter’s root work that has been underway. \nSpring (Vernal) Equinox is an astronomically significant solar event. \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunset. Stand with us and the Enlightenment Stones (Atlas and Lancelot) as the sun aligns to shine through the perforations in Lancelot and cast a line of bright points of light onto Atlas. Come and see! \nCOST: admission to Kinstone ($5/person) (place your admission in the Blue Payment Box attached to the Information Sign Board near the parking areas); No Registration Required \nDate: Thursday\, March 19   Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm \nActual sunset is expected at 7:18pm for our location. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the time we witness it is always just a bit earlier than expected! Come at 6:30 and enjoy the last light of winter before the sun sets! \n\n\nThis will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to send Winter off with a flourish. Given fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sunlight is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in Lancelot. We will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun immediately after our readings. If the sun is visible\, participants may wish to try to “catch the sun”\, take photos\, and watch the sun go down as we say farewell to Winter. \nDress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, jackets\, scarves\, hats and gloves! SUMMARY:VIRTUAL EVENT! February New Moon REFLECTIONS
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT: This is NOT an actual event and will not be held at any designated place and time. Please do not come to Kinstone for this virtual event.\n\n\n \n\n\nTHIS IS A VIRTUAL EVENT\, a PLACEHOLDER FOR YOU for the February New Moon – please use the theme and information below to help you celebrate and  honor the new moon from your own place\, on your own time\, and in your own way this month!\n\n\nFebruary Theme: Feminine Intelligence: I trust my intuitive wisdom. \nAstrology: Pisces (Water sign) ruled by Jupiter and Neptune. \nKeywords: Fluid\, ethereal\, mystical\, imaginative\, intuitive\, dreamer\, empathic\, emotional\, gentle\, loving\, soulful\, devoted\, psychic\, emotional\, feeling\, tender\, kind\, altruistic \n\nThe following is summarized from resources provided by our sisters at the Global Sisterhood: \n“This new moon in Pisces is a powerful time of honoring our emotions as old karmic lessons surface to be released by Mercury in Retrograde. Pisces’ watery waves bring with it a profoundly deep opportunity for learning how to move through our triggers with deep self-love and self-compassion. \nThis new moon brings with it incredible synchronicities\, including repeating numbers\, animal messengers\, and internal sensations that are here to guide you. Trust in the guidance that is appearing at this time\, and follow it like you never have before! This new moon brings an initiation into feminine wisdom for all who open to receive it. Intentionally tuning into this new moon can bring you to new depths of inner-knowing\, connection with the Divine\, and trust in yourself and in life. \nPut your big dreams into action\, and work towards them in harmony with your inner guidance. Now is a powerful time to practice radical empathy by putting yourself in the shoes of others and letting go of your own grudges\, judgments\, and comparisons that keep you feeling separate. Now is the time to connect and reconnect with others from a new perspective. \nTake this new moon as an opportunity to release anxiety that feels like it takes control of your life and leaves you feeling stressed and uninspired. Any time you remember to stop\, breathe\, feel compassion for yourself\, and exhale stress — take it. The new moon supports you in your healing and releasing. \nMake your choices and act on them! Choose to allow your body’s wisdom\, and life’s guidance\, to unfold. Compassion\, empathy\, and cooperation are supported and highlighted by this new moon — and it is a powerful time to let go of any doubt you have in your intuition or emotions. The energy of Pisces holds within it incredible feminine wisdom\, so this time is also ideal to cultivate your spiritual connection. \nWhen you connect with yourself and with the Divine\, you are cultivating the most important connections that will guide you on your path. This new moon is gifting you with a golden opportunity to learn to feel your own gifts and superpowers. This wisdom will illuminate your path. Trust it!” \nReflection prompts: \n\nThink of a situation in your life when your intuition was right on. Did you follow it? Did you go against it? What happened?\nHow would the world be different if our leaders chose to follow their hearts and listen to Feminine Intelligence when making decisions?\nHave you ever experienced a gut feeling\, known you feel the presence of a higher truth\, or felt the presence of guides or angels? What are the sensations you get when you KNOW something is right? What about when you know something is wrong?\nIn the last few months\, have you been listening to your intuitive feelings and your emotions? Have you been prioritizing Masculine Intelligence over Feminine Intelligence?\nClose your eyes for a moment. What does your intuition have to tell you right now?\nCreate your own prompt…\n\nUpcoming 2020 Kinstone Women’s Circle Event Dates: \nSunday\, March 8 – International Women’s Day:  #EachforEqual: An equal world is an enabled world. \nVIRTUAL EVENT!  Tuesday\, March 24 – Aries: Fierce Love: I stand in my power with clear boundaries \nWednesday\, April 22 – Taurus: Redefining Beauty: My body\, my rules \nFriday\, May 22 – Gemini: Free the Voice: I speak my truth \nSunday\, June 21 (Father’s Day) – Cancer: Liberation Through Forgiveness: I let go\, I set myself free \nMonday\, July 20 – Cancer:  theme to be announced! SUMMARY:VIRTUAL EVENT! January New Moon REFLECTIONS
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT: This is NOT an actual event and will not be held at any designated place and time. Please do not come to Kinstone for this virtual event.\n\n\n \n\n\nTHIS IS A VIRTUAL EVENT\, a PLACEHOLDER FOR YOU for the January New Moon – please use the theme and information below to help you celebrate and  honor the new moon from your own place\, on your own time\, and in your own way this month!\n\n\nJanuary Theme: Awakened Visionary: My dreams come to life. \nAstrology: Aquarius (Air sign\, ruled by Uranus and Saturn). \nKeywords: Curious\, imaginative\, generous\, humanitarian\, innovative\, inspired service\, purposeful\, revolutionary\, free-thinking. \n\nThis new moon in Aquarius is all about expansive visions of what you want to create in your life and for the world. It’s a powerful time to connect to the dreams alive in your heart — as impossible as you may think they are — and choose to share them with those closest to you. With the Sun\, Moon\, and Mercury all in Aquarius\, air energy is stirring up and manifesting as the winds of change. How will you greet them? With just a few weeks into this new year\, and potent Aquarian energy\, we are blessed with the chance to bring bold new visions and progressive changes into our lives and our world. \nThis is the first new moon of the decade and also the Chinese New Year. It invites us to set our intentions\, dreams\, and goals for 2020 and for the next ten years. Whatever you felt you wanted with all your heart just a few weeks ago on New Year’s Day may already be shifting (hello\, winds of change!). Aquarius brings an energy of rethinking and reimagining — and of dreaming big! Allow yourself to dream not only of new and exciting ventures\, but also of solutions to problems; both personal and global. Because Aquarius is the water-bearer and the humanitarian of the zodiac\, this is a powerful time to consider how our visions impact our communities and social circles. It’s time to give back\, and your heart’s inner vision holds the wisdom of exactly what gifts to give; all we need to do is create space to listen on this new moon. \nReflection prompts: \n\nDo you have any negative beliefs about your ability to manifest your dreams into reality? If so\, what are they?\nThink of a time you manifested something in your life. Was it intentional or unintentional? What did you learn about the process of manifestation? What worked well for you?\nWhat is your relationship to your inner visionary and inner dreamer? Do you encourage her\, believe in her\, trust her\, and listen to her? Or is that a relationship you need to work on healing?\nWhat was a dream you had as a little girl for yourself or for the world?\nIf you had a magic wand\, what is one thing you would change about the world?\nDo you have a project\, vision\, or idea that inspires you that will help birth a new world?\nWhat is your wildest dream for yourself?\nWhat is your experience with manifestation? Share any wisdom\, tips\, or tricks with your sisters.\n\nUpcoming 2020 Kinstone Women’s Circle Event Dates: \nVirtual Event: Sunday\, February 23 – Pisces: Feminine Intelligence: I trust my intuitive wisdom \nSunday\, March 8 – International Women’s Day:  #EachforEqual: An equal world is an enabled world. \nTuesday\, March 24 – Aries: Fierce Love: I stand in my power with clear boundaries \nWednesday\, April 22 – Taurus: Redefining Beauty: My body\, my rules \nFriday\, May 22 – Gemini: Free the Voice: I speak my truth \nSunday\, June 21 (Father’s Day) – Cancer: Liberation Through Forgiveness: I let go\, I set myself free \nMonday\, July 20 – Cancer:  theme to be announced! SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Sunrise Observance 2019
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Autumn to Winter. Come acknowledge the Winter Solstice  by watching the sunrise with us and seeing the alignment in the Great Stone Circle at Kinstone! \nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required \nDate: Saturday\, December 21\, 2019  Time: 7:30 am – 8:00am  (Sunrise Gathering) \nIMPORTANT: Arrive 10 minutes early and meet at the Education Center! We will decide at the last minute if we go out to the circle or if we stay indoors. \nWeather and conditions permitting\, we will proceed to the center of the Great Stone Circle at Kinstone. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and beams through the Chair Stones to light up anyone standing in the middle of the circle.  We will hear the story of the Chair Stones and how they are connected to the family of Kinstone. Given cloudy or rainy/snowy weather\, we will not see the sunrise\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. Witness the arrival of Winter. Send Autumn on its way with blessings. This observance will last only 30 minutes; however\, there will be coffee\, tea\, and hot cocoa in the Education Center afterwards. Please join us! \nThis event is planned to be held outdoors and will be held rain\, snow or shine. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, rain\, snow or clouds. If it is raining or snowing\, or if the snow on the ground is too deep for walking through\, we may gather indoors in the Kinstone Education Center. \nCancellation will occur in case of a major storm. Cancellations will be posted on THIS event page and on the Facebook event ONLY at least 1 hour before the scheduled start time for this event. \nDress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, scarves\, hats\, extra layers and gloves! Expect it to be colder and windier than you think! \nParking is limited – especially in winter. Please park in the small lot by the Education Center (Staff Parking area) if necessary and be prepared to walk some distance through snow to get to the circle! Note: we highly discourage parking along the road\, however; if you absolutely must park along the road due to snow in our Staff and Visitor Parking areas\, please make sure you put on your 4-way flashing lights while parked there for this short event. \n[Interesting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Winter Solstice is Saturday\, December 21\, 2019 at 10:19pm CDT.] \n

SUMMARY:Samhain - A Potluck and Poetry Bonfire
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain (pronounced “sauw-win”) with a Potluck Feast\, Poetry Readings and a Bonfire. On November 1\, in the space between years called “no-time\,” we will gather by the fire to share stories\, poems and a potluck feast. This is the last hurrah before winter sets in when we hunker down for the season of darkness and cold. \nWe invite you to revel in the enjoyment of Autumn’s bountiful harvest with us at Kinstone. The wheel of the year keeps turning; the sun has already begun to sleep in later each morning and leave us in darkness earlier each evening. We will emulate the ancients with a community fire and potluck feast. We will take time to remember our ancestors and those who have died. We will celebrate our children and those who are new-born. Everyone who wishes to may share their original poetry by reading it out loud around the fire. Costumes are encouraged\, but optional. Dress warmly! Wear a headlamp! Hot beverages will be served! \nWhat: Samhain Potluck Feast\, Poetry Readings and Bonfire at Kinstone \nDate: Friday\, November 1\, 2019 \nTime: 5:30pm  (Note: the end time is flexible and dependent upon the number of poets; likely ending by 10pm) \nCOST/TICKETS:  $10/person – a ticket is required for entry! Tickets are available through EVENTBRITE click HERE. Limited attendance\, get your ticket early! \nLocation: Stargazer Circle at Kinstone – OUTDOORS! \nWhat to bring:  this is a potluck feast; bring a dish to pass as well as a serving spoon/ladle\, etc if required for your dish; there will not be electricity for plugging in any appliances\, so plan accordingly! \nWhat is provided by Kinstone:   \n\na sacred space in which to gather\nwater and hot beverages including coffee\, tea\, and cider\nplates/bowls/cups/forks/spoons/napkins (ALL are compostable!)\n\nWhat to wear:  Costumes are welcome (disguise yourself so the monsters that roam across “the veil” do not recognize you and take you off to the Otherworld!) and wear very WARM clothes\, wool socks\, boots\, mittens\, hats\, scarves! Wear a headlamp!  \nIMPORTANT: This event will be held rain or shine! If weather is bad we will meet around a small firepit on the Porch and also open the Kinstone Education Center. No refunds! \nRead on to find out more about Samhain and our Samhain Celebration! \nSamhain is a festival originating from ancient Celtic spiritual traditions. It is the time between the old Celtic year and the new Celtic year.  It is usually celebrated for 3 days and 3 nights around All Hallow’s Eve (Halloween\, Oct 31)\, All Saints Day (Nov1) and All Soul’s Day (Nov 2). It is also called the Feast of the Dead. Since this short time period does not seem to fall into either the old or the new Celtic calendar year\, it has been called “no-time”.  Some consider the time between Samhain and the start of the new year as a time which does not even exist on the Earthly plane. The “time which is no time” was considered to be both very magical and very dangerous. This was the time to bring home the harvest and usher in the “dark half of the year.” It was a time when the veil between this world and the Otherworld was thought to be so thin that the dead could return to sit at the hearths of the living\, and some of the living – especially poets – were able to enter the Otherworld as well. \nOther Interesting Tidbits about Samhain: \n\nSamhain is one of the four quarterly fire festivals on the ancient Celtic calendar. The others are Imbolc\, Beltain\, and Lughnasadh – these are also called cross-quarter days as they take place at the midpoint between Equinoxes and Solstices. Samhain takes place at the midpoint between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice.\nIn ancient times\, loved ones who had recently died were remembered and their spirits invited to join the living in the celebratory feast. It was also a time at which those born during the past year were formally welcomed into the community. A community fire was lit and participants took a flame or coal from the communal bonfire back to their home to re-light their own hearth which had gone cold while they were out harvesting. People prepared offerings for the ancestors and for any fairies or other beings of the Otherworld. They would dress in disguise as animals or monsters to no otherworldly being would kidnap them. This is a major source of our modern day Halloween traditions.\nIn the Middle Ages bonfires were lit to protect families and farms from fairies and witches and carved turnips with a glowing coal were made and called jack-o-lanterns! A supper was prepared and enjoyed after inviting ancestors to join the meal giving families a chance to interact with the spirits of the dead and update them on the past year’s news until after the meal was over when the spirits left.\nTrick-or-treating is said to come from ancient Irish and Scottish practices in the nights leading up to Samhain. In Ireland\, “mumming” was the practice of putting on costumes\, going door-to-door and singing songs to the dead. Cakes were given as payment. Pranks also became popular and were typically blames on the fairies.\n\nOn this day we will rejoice as we gather to enjoy the fruits of summer labor and all that has been gathered\, preserved and stored up in preparation for the chill of winter. In “no-time” at all the land will be asleep under a crystal coverlet of white. Join us!

SUMMARY:Ribbons of Intention Fire Ceremony 2019
DESCRIPTION:Ribbons of Intention Fire Ceremony\n\n\n\n\nOctober 4 is the date designated as The Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. On this date each year we remove the ribbons that are tied to the Tree of Intention (a.k.a. Prayer Tree) in the Kinstone Chapel of Creation and burn them in the fire pit in the Stargazer Circle\, releasing the prayers and intentions written there\, to the Universe. This special event is marked by a brief ceremony that is free and open to the public. \nRibbon Ceremony – 4:30pm – 6:30pm \nWe gather around the Tree of Intention in the Kinstone Chapel of Creation to begin this ceremony. All of the ribbons on the Tree represent intentions left there by visitors to Kinstone over the past year. All those in attendance today will participate in a short service to raise up all the intentions in prayer. Immediately thereafter\, we will all work at removing each ribbon from the Tree and place them into a basket. The basket of ribbons is then set at the feet of the little statue of St. Francis outside the chapel in a symbolic expression of gratitude for the holding of these prayers this year. \nThen\, gathered around the empty Tree\, we will say The Peace Prayer of St. Francis as a single red ribbon\, with the intention for world peace inscribed upon it.  At this time\, everyone present is invited to take a ribbon if they wish\, inscribe a new intention upon it for the coming year and tie it to the tree. A new season has begun! \nThe basket of ribbons is then carried with respect and honor to the Stargazer Circle where a fire is already burning in the fire pit. When gathered there\, we create a sacred space for this ceremony around the fire. We speak of Saint Francis and the significance of his story and how it relates to the Kinstone story. We read stories about him and prayers that are attributed to him. We state our purpose in burning the ribbons; we profess our willingness to release attachment to the outcome and express profound gratitude that our needs will be provided for in creative and sometimes unexpected ways.  The ribbons are then put into the fire\, releasing all the prayers\, all the intentions\, to the Universe. We end by saying a prayer of thanksgiving. \nIf you are interested in participating\, just show up. No registration is required. There is no fee. \n\nIMPORTANT: If you wish to wander the grounds of Kinstone outside of this event\, please plan to pay your regular admission. Thank you.

We are part of the Global Sisterhood. A Sister Circle is a safe and sacred place where we can get real\, share our journeys\, insights\, and stories. We can cultivate self-love and authentic connection. In circle we can all speak our truth and be seen and heard for who we are.\n\nRead through this whole page for details!\n\n\n\nSome questions for contemplation / inspiration for sharing this month:\n\n\n\n\nWhat does masculine and feminine mean both internally and externally?\nWhat is your relationship like with your father and your mother? How do you think these relationships have impacted your embodiment of masculine and feminine energy\, and the way you relate to these polarities?\nIn what ways have you witnessed unhealthy masculine and unhealthy feminine expression in your life? What wounds do you still have — whether mental\, emotional\, or in the way you view these energies?\nDo you feel balanced in your masculine and feminine energy in each area of your life? Think about career\, self-growth\, friends and family\, health and fitness\, finances\, fun\, and love life. Do you have a tendency to express more masculine or feminine energy in each of these areas?\nWhere might you be suppressing your feminine energy in favor of the masculine\, or vise versa? Why do you feel you are suppressing it?\nHave you ever been in a romantic partnership where you embodied more masculine energy than your partner? How did it impact you and your partnership physically\, emotionally\, spiritually?\nDo you feel comfortable being supported by and asking for support from men? Do you feel comfortable praising men? How do you think women can heal our collective judgment\, rage\, and fear of men?\nCreate your own question / reflection.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is no need to register. Just show up. If you want to share in the meal\, please Contact Us and let us know! Cost to participate in the meal is $5/person. Thank you. \nGENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE KINSTONE NEW MOON WOMEN’S CIRCLE \nWomen have been gathering in a healing\, sharing sister circle at Kinstone on the New Moon since March 2016 when the first International Women’s Day was launched. We average about 20 women at our circles. Sometimes less\, sometimes more. We’ve had as few as 3 and as many as 42 show up! It begins each year with an event in conjunction with International Women’s Day (March 8) and continues each month on the day of the New Moon through November! \nAll women are invited to this circle\, especially women who desire to create supportive relationships with other women\, women who are feeling overwhelmed or stressed and are looking for some rejuvenation\, and women who are looking for ways to find and express the Sacred in their daily lives. \nIn circle\, we join in a short heart meditation\, then we have a time for personal sharing – feelings\, questions\, truths\, stories\, poems\, and more. In this space we are free to celebrate our individuality as well as our collective strength\, fearlessness\, nurturing\, healing and gifts. We end with a shared meal and informal conversations around the tables. Come as you are. It is free to participate; however\, we do share a meal and if you want to eat\, we ask a $5 donation for a meal. Join us! Please share these events with other women who may be interested. Thank you! \nKinstone has some amazing sacred spaces and we like to use them as much as possible. We may gather in the large Stone Circle\, Three Witnesses circle\, Star Gazer Circle\, Circle of Mystery or other outdoor sacred place at Kinstone (weather permitting). If weather is uncooperative\, we meet in our beautiful classroom space in the Education Center. \nAll women are invited\, especially women who are desiring to create supportive relationships with other women\, women who are feeling overwhelmed or stressed and are looking for some rejuvenation\, and women who are looking for ways to find and express the Sacred in their daily lives.  \nDate(s): The evening of each NEW MOON March through November – see the list of dates below. We do NOT meet in December\, January or February unless otherwise posted. \nTime: 6:00pm to 8:00pm \nPlace:  Kinstone Circle\, S3439 Cole Bluff Lane\, Fountain City\, Wisconsin 54629\, USA. SUMMARY:Autumn Equinox SUNSET Observance - Time to Catch the Sun
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we gather to observe the sunset alignment at Kinstone in celebration of the Autumnal Equinox. We will gather near the stones known as Lancelot and Atlas for a short opening rite and reading.  Sunset is at 7:02pm according to the charts\, but is often different when on  the ridge\, so we will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun at 6:30! \nGiven fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sun light is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in the Wise One. Given cloudy or rainy weather\, we will not see the sunset\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! \nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required \nDate: Monday\, September 23\, 2019  Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm: Sunset Observance and Catching of the Sun \nLocation: near the stones known as Atlas and Lancelot at Kinstone \nIf you wish to be given a chance to “catch the sun”\, please Contact Us to sign up by sending an email stating “I want to catch the sun” and include your full name\, email address and phone number with the subject “Catch the sun”. Guests who have signed up will be called in order of sign-up time – as many as we can get through will be given a chance to be photographed with their hands catching the sun – only if weather and sunset conditions permit the phenomenon to occur! \nThis event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by evening mist\, fog or clouds. If it is raining\, we may gather indoors inside the Kinstone Education Center. Cancellation will occur in case of a major storm. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, raincoats\, scarves\, hats and gloves if chilly or wet! \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the Autumnal Equinox is Monday\, September 23\, 2019 at 2:50am CDT.  \nIMPORTANT: If you wish to wander the grounds of Kinstone outside of this event\, please plan to pay your regular admission. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Autumnal Equinox SUNRISE Observance
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Summer to Autumn. We will celebrate at sunrise on the Autumnal Equinox as we look to see the equinox sunrise alignment between sun and stone here at Kinstone!\n\n\nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required (NOTE: If you plan to walk around Kinstone after this event\, please plan to pay the $5 admission fee.) \nDate: Monday\, September 23\, 2019   Time: 6:30am – 7:30am (at Sunrise) \nLocation: The Three Witnesses Sculpture at Kinstone \nCome experience the Autumnal Equinox sunrise as we gather in the center of The Three Witnesses sculpture at Kinstone. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and beams through the Equinox Window to light up the heart of the middle “witness”. Given cloudy or rainy weather\, we will not see the sunrise\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. \nAfter our readings\, if the sun is visible\, participants may wish to look at the alignment through the Equinox Window\, see the heart highlighted in the center stone Witness\, sit in the light of the sun\, take photos\, and greet the sunrise. We will witness the arrival of Autumn and send Summer on its way with our blessings. This gathering will last about 45 minutes to one hour. Actual sunrise is at 6:54am. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone and the fields and trees in our view\, the time we witness it is always somewhat different. \nThis event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by early morning mist\, fog or clouds. If it is raining\, we may gather indoors inside the Kinstone Education Center. Cancellation will occur in case of a major storm. SUMMARY:The Pillars of Mindfulness Amidst the Way of the Stones - An Equinox Retreat
DESCRIPTION:An Equinox Retreat at Kinstone \nThe Pillars of Mindfulness Amidst the Way of the Stones \nDate: Sunday September 22nd\, 2019 \nTime:  9AM-4PM \nCost: $85 (includes a simple\, vegetarian lunch) \nREGISTRATION / TICKETS:  GET TICKETS BY CLICKING HERE \nJoin Trish Johnson and Kristine Beck for a unique daylong retreat focused on cultivating an intentionally present and meaningful life. As the seasons change and the sun and earth align again at Equinox\, there is also change and alignment taking place inside each of us. This retreat encourages us to turn inward and notice what we might not normally make time for in our lives. Using the pillars of mindfulness (i.e. non-judgment\, self-compassion\, patience\, beginner’s mind\, trust\, non-striving\, acceptance\, letting go) as the foundation for exploration\, together we will journey outdoors\, like pilgrims\, along The Way of the Stones\, connecting to the Earth and with the Divine in each step. We will visit the Chapel of Creation\, Stone Circle\, Labyrinth\, Dolmen of Remembrance\, Serpent of Transformation\, The Three Witnesses\, Stargazer Circle and other sacred spaces around Kinstone. As we walk the land\, we will take time at each of these stone spaces\, studying\, discussing and practicing the pillars of mindfulness meditation. The natural spaces under the open sky and these incredible standing stones help us to examine and illuminate our inner study and bring us more into alignment with the life we authentically want to live. \n  \nAdditional details: Rain or Shine. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes. Suggested items to bring: umbrellas for shade or rain\, journals\, drawing materials\, jacket\, yoga mat or blanket for personal meditation times\, sunscreen and insect repellent. \n  \nAbout your facilitators: \nKristine Beck is the founder\, creator and director of Kinstone in Fountain City\, Wisconsin. An entrepreneur at heart\, she returned to her family land to build Kinstone after successfully selling a software company she had started with a business partner. Kristine has now dedicated her life to blending conscious care of the Earth with art to form sacred spaces at Kinstone that invite and inspire people to experience the life-giving power of the land to transform\, energize and revive the body\, mind and spirit. She facilitates sacred walks around Kinstone as well as monthly women’s circle gatherings and group meditations. Kristine is an amateur photographer focusing on the beauty of nature\, especially at Kinstone. \nTrish Johnson’s life passion and commitment in supporting others on their journey in self-exploration\, discovery\, care and authenticity. SUMMARY:A Kirtan Experience in the Stone Circle
DESCRIPTION:Come experience KIRTAN with us and even sing along here at Kinstone in our beautiful stone circle. Lotus Head\, a transcendental lounge and kirtan band from Viroqua Wisconsin will lead us in this enchanting musical encounter. They will perform mostly original kirtan compositions designed to assist us in connecting with our wholeness. Be ready to raise your vibrations with their mystical music\, ancient chants and powerful affirmations. \nJai Lynn leads with lyrics\, harmonium and percussion. She will guide us into harmony. Monte plays gong and drums (as well as bass and piano when power is available!); he has over 30 years of musical experience. Together Jai Lynn and Monte create an awakening and transcendental experience. \nCome enjoy! \nSo\, you may ask\, WHAT IS KIRTAN???  Read on… \nKirtan is music. It may be quite a different kind of music than you are used to. It comes from India and largely consists of mantras or chants sung by a leader and then repeated by the audience. It’s a kind of sing-a-long. Many of the songs are sung in Sanskrit and are based on ancient chants. Since you do not know the words\, you can immerse yourself in the music and quiet your mind. It can be a very meditative and magical experience. \nThe following italicized text is quoted from Kitzie Stern\, producer of the podcast\, New World Kirtan: \n“What is Kirtan? \n\n\n\n\n\nIt began in India centuries ago as a spiritual practice\, and was known as the layman’s way to connect with the Divine.\nIn the last ten years\, kirtan has become a phenomenon across the United States\, and has transformed musically to appeal to the ears of American audiences.\nKirtan is a new kind of concert experience here in the West.  It’s not so much a performance as a journey into the self through the practice of listening & singing.  The leaders at a kirtan concert are called wallahs\, and everyone is part of the music.  My all-time favorite descriptions of a kirtan concert: “It’s like singing around a campfire”\, “It’s like a hootenanny with meditation.”\nWhile singing along at a kirtan concert\, you can experience your own voice becoming as beautiful as those performing—all voices merge together to become One Voice.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKirtan is a very simple & powerful way to meditate.  It’s effortless & joyful; the music does the work for you as you flow with the melody & rhythm.\nThe performers & the concert-goers create the experience together.\nThe chants are sung in Sanskrit unless you attend a Sikh kirtan ( e.g. Snatam Kaur).  The ancient chants contain powerful renewing & transformative energy that helps us reconnect with the Divinity that resides within all of us.\nSinging is the heart of kirtan\, and no one cares what you sound like.  At a kirtan concert all voices merge together to become One Voice.\nKirtan is non-denominational\, the Universal language of Spirit\, the song of the Soul.”\n\n\n\nIMPORTANT: This is a non-smoking\, alcohol free\, kid-friendly event. This event will be held rain or shine. If the weather is not ideal for outdoor listening we will hold this event inside the Kinstone Education Center. No refunds. \nDate:  Friday\, June 28\, 2019  Time:  6:00 pm Tickets:  $12.00 up to 24 hours in advance\, $15.00 at the door. Kids 12 & under are FREE but must be accompanied by an adult registered for the event! \nPurchase tickets through Eventbrite by clicking HERE or by clicking on the link labeled “Website:”  in the right-hand column on this page; your printed receipt is required for entry. \nPay at the door (cash only) is possible but requires a reservation in advance\, so if you plan to come and pay at the door please CONTACT US to register! Advanced payment is preferred. \nNOTICE:  Bring your own chair or blanket to sit on. Dress for the weather and bring your own insect repellent and/or sunscreen if needed. A flashlight may be helpful if you stay until dark. Park in designated parking areas. Upon arrival\, proceed to the Stone Circle (or the Education Center Classroom if raining). \nABOUT LOTUS HEAD \nLotus Head is a transcendental lounge and kirtan band from Viroqua Wisconsin.
