SUMMARY:Equinox Morning: Sunrise and Moonset - Vernal Equinox Observance
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nTHIS is a MORNING event to see our SUNRISE ALIGNMENT (there is a separate event for evening to see our sunset alignment). \nSpring Equinox is one of those astronomically significant solar events when the sun is midpoint in its journey between the Summer and Winter Solstices. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a time for new beginnings\, growth\, and seeking the joy of the light. At Kinstone we have a unique ALIGNMENT through the Equinox Window in The Three Witnesses sculpture that is visible during the sunrise on Equinox. Come and see! \nJoin us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Winter to Spring. Celebrate the warming of the Earth and the long awaited time for putting out new growth from the long winter’s root work that has been underway. We will celebrate at sunrise on the Vernal Equinox as we look to see the equinox sunrise alignment between sun and stone here at Kinstone! \nSPECIAL CELESTIAL EVENT in 2019: There is a FULL MOON on the same day as the Vernal Equinox!! Weather permitting\, we will see a magnificent moonset as well as the glorious sunrise on this morning!   \nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required \nDate: Wednesday\, March 20   Time: 6:30am – 7:45am \n\n\nCome experience the Vernal Equinox sunrise (and MOONSET!) as we gather in the center of The Three Witnesses sculpture at Kinstone. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the nearly Full Moon set in the west and then also watch the morning sun as it crests the ridge and beams through the Equinox Window to light up the heart of the middle “witness”. Given cloudy or rainy weather\, we will not see the moonset or the sunrise\, but will greet these celestial events ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. After our readings\, if the sun is visible\, participants may wish to look at the alignment through the Equinox Window\, see the heart highlighted in the center stone Witness\, sit in the light of the sun\, take photos\, and greet the sunrise. We will witness the arrival of Spring and send Winter on its way with our blessings. This gathering will last about an hour and fifteen minutes. Actual moonset is at 7:19am and actual sunrise is at 7:21am. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the times we witness these is always somewhat different. \nThis event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Please note that we will not see the moonset\, sunrise\, and the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by early morning mist\, fog or clouds. If it is raining\, we will gather indoors in the Kinstone Education Center. Cancellation will occur in case of a major storm. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, scarves\, hats and gloves if chilly! Be prepared for it to be breezy and cool up here on the ridge! \nInteresting facts: The exact time of the astronomical Vernal Equinox is Wednesday\, March 20\, 2019\, at 4:58pm CDT. The exact time of the Full Moon on the same day is 8:42pm.

We average about 20 women at our circles. Sometimes less\, sometimes more. We’ve had as few as 3 and as many as 42 show up! In this space we are free to celebrate our individuality as well as our collective strength\, fearlessness\, nurturing\, healing and gifts. We end with a shared meal and informal conversations around the tables. Come as you are. It is free to participate; however\, we do share a meal and if you want to eat\, we ask a $5 donation for a meal. Join us! Please share these events with other women who may be interested. Thank you! \nKinstone has some amazing sacred spaces and we like to use them as much as possible. SUMMARY:October Celestial Saunter - Full Moon Labyrinth Walk at Kinstone
DESCRIPTION:“Do you know the origin of that word ‘saunter?’ It’s a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land\, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going\, they would reply\, “A la sainte terre\,’ ‘To the Holy Land.’ And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers.” ~John Muir \nJoin us for an evening stroll in the Kinstone Labyrinth followed by stargazing and witnessing the rising of the full moon over the Kinstone Circle.  We will walk the labyrinth and then gather around a fire in the Stargazer Circle as we await star-shine and moonrise. Moonrise is officially at 6:38pm but will likely be delayed a few minutes on the horizon as seen from the circles at Kinstone. It’s the anniversary week of the building of the Kinstone Circle (Oct 18 – 28\, 2011) so Kristine may tell us a few stories of it’s creation as we stay warm by the fire. We may see the stars arrive as it gets dark and if we are really lucky we might even see some early evening meteors before the bright moon has risen too high as the Orionid meteor showers will still be happening through the 26th of October! When the moon appears we may witness it from the fire circle or the standing stones or the pond\, the chapel or the Three Witnesses\, or the dolmen or the labyrinth – all areas are beautiful places to stand in awe. \nCOST:  Free \nIMPORTANT:   Dress warmly! Bring a blanket to sit on and/or to stay warm. Bring a flashlight\, headlamp or lantern to see where you are walking if you plan to stay until dark. Bring a travel mug of hot tea or hot cocoa if you wish. This is a smoke-free\, alcohol free event. \nNOTE: The labyrinth is located on steep land and requires the ability to walk down-hill and then back up-hill. If you want to attend but are unable to walk the terrain\, you may stay in the Stargazer Circle and use a finger labyrinth (printed on paper) to participate in the labyrinth “walk”. \n“It is a beautiful and delightful sight to behold the body of the Moon.” -Galileo Galilei\, The Starry Messenger\, Venice 1610: “From Doubt to Astonishment” \n

SUMMARY:Ribbons of Intention Fire Ceremony (Annual)
DESCRIPTION:Ribbons of Intention Fire Ceremony (Annual)\n\n\n\n\nOctober 4 is the date designated as The Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. On this date each year we remove the ribbons that are tied to the Tree of Intention (a.k.a. Prayer Tree) in the Kinstone Chapel and burn them in the fire circle\, releasing the prayers and intentions written there\, to the Universe. This special event is marked by a brief ceremony that is free and open to the public. Check this page for the exact time of the ceremony as it may vary from year to year. \nRibbon Ceremony – 5:00pm – 7:00pm \nWe gather in the Kinstone Chapel to begin this ceremony. Everyone present is invited to take a ribbon and inscribe an intention upon it that expresses something to be released\, let go. These ribbons are tied to the Tree of Intention as all the intentions already on the tree are raised up in prayer. When ready\, all ribbons are removed from the Tree in the chapel\, counted and then placed into a basket. The basket is set at the feet of the little statue of St. Francis outside the chapel for a brief moment in a symbolic expression of gratitude for the holding of these prayers this year. The Tree of Intention remains empty until the participants return to the chapel after the fire ceremony. The basket of ribbons is carried with respect and honor to the Stargazer Circle where a fire is already burning in the fire pit. When gathered there\, we create a sacred space for this ceremony around the fire. We speak of Saint Francis and the significance of his story and how it relates to the Kinstone story. We read stories about him and prayers that are attributed to him. We state our purpose in burning the ribbons; we profess our willingness to release attachment to the outcome and express profound gratitude that our needs will be provided for in creative and sometimes unexpected ways.  The ribbons are then put into the fire\, releasing all the prayers\, all the intentions\, to the Universe. We say a prayer of thanksgiving. \nEveryone present is invited to proceed back to the Chapel. The Peace Prayer of St. Francis is recited as a single red ribbon\, with the intention for world peace inscribed upon it\, is placed onto the otherwise empty tree.  At this time\, everyone present is invited to take a ribbon\, inscribe a new intention upon it for the coming year and tie it to the tree. A new season begins. The ceremony is over. \nIf you are interested in participating\, just show up. No registration is required. There is no fee.

SUMMARY:Autumnal Equinox Observance – Sunset Gathering / Catch the Sun

If the sun light is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in the Wise One. Given cloudy or rainy weather\, we will not see the sunset\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! \nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required \nDate: Sunday\, September 23\, 2018  Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm: Sunset Gathering and Catching of the Sun \nIf you wish to be given a chance to “catch the sun”\, please Contact Us to sign up by sending an email stating “I want to catch the sun” and include your full name\, email address and phone number with the subject “Catch the sun”. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Sunrise Observance
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Autumn to Winter. We will gather to celebrate it at sunrise. This event gives us all a chance to experience the special alignment on this day in the large stone circle. The sun will be ushered into the circle through The Chair Stones.  There is possibility of snow and cold weather. Therefore\, we have a very short observance planned. The actual sunrise is at 7:38am\, but given our topography we expect the sun to rise at about 7:50am at Kinstone. Our event will run from 7:30am to about 8:00am\, just 30 minutes.\nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required\nDate: Friday\, December 21\, 2018  Time: 7:30 am – 8:15am  (Sunrise Gathering)\nCome experience the Winter Solstice sunrise as we gather in the center of the large stone circle at Kinstone. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and beams through the Chair Stones to light up anyone standing in the middle of the circle.  We will hear the story of the Chair Stones and how they are connected to the family of Kinstone.\nGiven cloudy or rainy weather\, we will not see the sunrise\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading.  Witness the arrival of Winter. Send Autumn on its way with blessings. This gathering will last about 30 minutes.\nThis event is outdoors and will be held rain\, snow or shine. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, rain\, snow or clouds. If it is raining or snowing\, we may gather indoors in the Kinstone Education Center. Cancellation will occur in case of a major storm. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, scarves\, hats\, extra layers and gloves!\nParking is limited – especially in winter. Be prepared to park in the Staff Parking area if necessary. Be prepared to walk some distance through snow to get to the circle! If we have deep snow it will be difficult walking! Note: we highly discourage parking along the road\, however; if you absolutely must park along the road due to snow in our Visitor Parking areas\, please make sure you put on your 4-way flashing lights while parked there.\nInteresting fact: The exact time of the Winter Solstice is Friday\, December 21\, 2018 at 4:22pm CDT.
