Due to the winter storm and continued snow forecasted until 7pm tonight\, this event has been postponed until Thursday\, March 20 at 6:15pm.\n\n  \nLast Sunset of Winter – Vernal Equinox Evening Observance  \nCatch the Last Rays of Winter Sun at the Equinox Sunset Alignment at Kinstone! \n\nNote: this sunset alignment event is intentionally scheduled for the day before the actual day of Equinox; however\, our sunrise alignment event is scheduled for the day of Equinox. \n\nWeather and snow conditions permitting\, we will be outdoors as we stand and watch the sunset. If the weather is bad\, we will cancel – watch for cancellation updates (if any) on the day of the event.  \nThe actual time of Equinox is 4:01 am CDT on Thursday\, March 20th – so this is the time to witness the last sunset of Winter! \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunset. Stand with us and the Enlightenment Stones (Atlas and Lancelot) as the sun aligns to shine through the perforations in Lancelot and cast a line of bright points of light onto Atlas. Come and see! \nSpring (Vernal) Equinox is an astronomically significant solar event. It occurs when the sun is midpoint in its journey from Winter Solstice to Summer Solstice. The sun appears to rise at due east and set at due west. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a herald of spring; a time for new beginnings\, growth\, and seeking the joy of the light. \nCOST: admission to Kinstone\, $10/person\, (pay in advance online OR pay in person in the Kinstone Visitor Center upon arrival – please arrive early enough to do that before proceeding to the location of the alignment and still get there before the event begins). No Registration Required. \nDate: Wednesday\, March 19\, 2025   Time: 6:15pm – 7:30pm \nCome early and enjoy the last light of winter before the sun sets. \n\n\nThis will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to send Winter off with a flourish. Given fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sunlight is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see the alignment and some of us attending may be able to “catch the sun”. We will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun immediately after our readings. \nDress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, jackets\, scarves\, hats and gloves. Bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on\, for your comfort\, if you wish. Be prepared for it to be breezy and cool up here on the ridge (many people underestimate the wind and cold). \nThis event is outdoors and will be held only in good weather. If it is raining or snowing\, this event will be cancelled. Cancellations will be posted only on this event page and on the corresponding Facebook event page at least four (4) hours before the scheduled start time for this event. \n\nIMPORTANT:  Anyone attending can try to “catch the sun” on a first-come basis. As many as we can get through will be given a chance to be photographed with their hands catching the sun – bring a friend who can be your photographer! \n\nHAPPY SPRING! \nActual sunset is expected to occur at 7:16pm for our location on this date. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the time we witness it is always just a bit earlier than expected. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Sunrise Observance
DESCRIPTION:This event will be held as scheduled as long as the weather is reasonably good. We will be outdoors as we stand and watch the sunrise. If the weather is bad (i.e. winter storm)\, we will cancel – watch for cancellation updates (if any) by 10pm the night before the event.  \nCome acknowledge the Winter Solstice by watching the sunrise with us and standing in the alignment in the Great Stone Circle. This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to help us welcome Winter and send Autumn on its way with blessings. Join us to celebrate as Autumn passes  the seasonal “baton” to Winter. \nCOST: admission to Kinstone (pay in advance online OR pay in person at the Kinstone Visitor Center upon arrival); No Registration Required \nDate: Saturday\, December 21\, 2024  Time: 7:00am – 8:00am \nWHAT TO BRING: feel free to bring a poem about winter\, winter solstice\, snow\, or other winter theme to share. \nIMPORTANT:  We will gather at 7am in the Kinstone Visitor Center. Depending on snow levels and weather we will determine exactly where we will hold the short program that is scheduled to start at 7:10am. If possible\, we will gather around a blazing fire in the Stargazer Circle. If it is too cold and/or there is too much snow on the ground\, we may instead gather inside the building or around a smaller fire near the Porch of the Visitor Center. Thank you in advance for your patience as we figure out exactly where to be for the program portion. \nWeather and snow conditions permitting\, we will proceed together from the short program area to the center of the Great Stone Circle. Given fair weather and clear skies\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and beams through the Chair Stones into the center of the Circle. \nNote: Actual sunrise is at 7:38am and given the topography at Kinstone it will be closer to 7:50am when we can see the sun from the center of the circle on a clear day. \nDress in layers! We may be indoors for part of this and then proceed outdoors later. Bring what winter gear you need for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, boots\, scarves\, hats\, extra layers and gloves. Expect it to be colder and windier than you think. In snowy years\, be prepared to walk some distance through snow and on uneven (perhaps icy – or muddy\, slippery) paths to get to the circle. \nParking may be very limited if there is snow on the ground.  If there is not much snow\, please park in the grassy parking area known as the Riverview Parking Area. If there is a lot of snow\, we will be limited to parking in the small lot by the Visitor Center (Staff Parking area). If this is the case\, please park as closely to others as possible to make enough room for all. Note: we highly discourage parking along the road\, however; if you absolutely must park along the road due to snow in our Staff and Visitor Parking areas\, please make sure you put on your 4-way flashing lights while parked there for this short event and do not park in front of any neighbors’ property or driveways. \nThis event is planned to be held outdoors.  It will be cancelled in case of snow storm or bad weather. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, rain\, snow or clouds. SUMMARY:The Labyrinth and the Creative Spirit Workshop
DESCRIPTION:*** NOTE: This event has been rescheduled to November 2\, 2024\nTHE LABYRINTH AND THE CREATIVE SPIRIT \nJoin Kathie Giorgio\, critically acclaimed author of novels\, story books\, essays and poetry as she presents an educational workshop on the use of the labyrinth as a tool to enhance and focus the creative process. \nThe labyrinth and the creative process go hand in hand. In this interactive workshop\, we will first take the time to define the four steps of the creative process: Preparation\, Incubation\, Illumination\, and Implementation. Then we will make these steps OUR steps – literally our footsteps – as we walk the labyrinth. \nAll who take this workshop are encouraged to have an interest in the arts\, particularly writing\, literary arts and visual arts. Each person will focus on an individual project. You do not have to have a specific\, pre-determined project\, and in fact\, it is better to come with an open mind as the labyrinth will help you arrive at an idea. Please don’t feel that you already have to be an artist or writer to do this – anyone with an interest is encouraged to participate. \nAfter the discussion of the creative process\, we will all walk the labyrinth. Upon reaching the center of the labyrinth\, participants will jot down notes or sketches of the images and thoughts they had on the spiral in. The walk from center back to the beginning is a focused time to let your idea(s) take shape. Upon stepping out of the labyrinth\, participants will start to formalize and work on their project – an art piece or written work – within the time allotted. \nAll participants will leave the workshop with a project well underway and helped on its way by turning our footsteps into the steps of the creative process. \nPre-registration is required\, as space is limited. The fee includes instruction and a selection of materials; the workshop is expected to fill. \nAlthough some art and writing materials will be provided\, please bring your preferred art supplies and/or whatever it is you like to write on. A sense of familiarity is often welcomed when working on something brand new. You are free to bring your own writing tools\, brushes\, charcoal or pastels\, or whatever you wish to work with\, and if you write\, feel free to bring your laptop or tablet or actual notebooks or paper and a favorite pen! \nPlease bring your own sack lunch. Her poem\, “Harvest Moon”\, was included in the Poetry Leaves exhibition in Waterford\, Michigan. In a recent column\, Jim Higgins\, the books editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel\, listed Giorgio as one of the top 21 Wisconsin writers of the 21st century.\n\nBesides being a writer\, Giorgio is also the director and founder of the international creative writing studio\, AllWriters’ Workplace & Workshop LLC. So we enter into ritual in order to respond to the call of the soul.” \n― Malidoma Patrice Somé\, Ritual: Power\, Healing and Community\n\n\nJoin us for this monthly community healing ritual led by Erica Thibodeaux\, MS\, LPCC\, occurring on the second Saturday of each month May through October from 3pm to 6pm. \nNo experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. \nDuring these events\, we will come together and create a ritual that emerges from the rhythm of all who are gathered\, their current needs\, and the guidance and support of the elemental beings of the fire (ancestors)\, water\, earth\, nature\, and minerals. \nWhat gets created in group ritual arises out of the participants voices. Together\, we will create something NEW based on the relationships each participant carries with them into our circle from their own inner wisdom that may or may not be already known. \nThis event is highly participatory. You are asked to arrive with an open heart and mind and a willingness to learn from the Elements themselves\, as well as willingness to support your fellow participants. Alcohol and drug use are not allowed during these events. \nCost: These rituals are donation based + the entrance fee to Kinstone ($10). Erica has taught mindfulness meditation in diverse settings such as universities\, corporate environments\, and local organizations.  She uses creative and empowering methods to evoke client-centered transformation and provide individuals\, couples\, and families with tools to take and use over their lifetime. Some of the methods she uses are group and community ritual facilitation\, somatic and body-centered therapy\, focusing\, spiritual re-wilding\, earth and nature-based therapy\, and Indigenous African technologies. YogaJen or Jen).  Jen is an experienced yoga teacher who loves to help others on their wellness journey. \nThe energy exchange happening within Kinstone during time is so important. The more who join in\, the more connections can be made and deepened. Come on\, join in\, and make a “kinection”! \nWHEN:  weekly on Mondays from 10am – 11am from June 3rd through October 7th \nCOST:  This experience is donation based + the entrance fee to Kinstone ($10). Our hope is to keep these accessible to any who are feeling the call to move and do yoga with us. DESCRIPTION:Due to the popularity of this experience\, we are offering this event twice this year – we hope to see you there! \nAt this nighttime event\, watch the sunset\, relax with sacred sounds of rare Tibetan singing bowls\, huge gongs and Native American flute to experience a full immersion sound bath in the Great Stone Circle while the moon rises!  Bring your favorite crystal with you to charge it up with all this high vibe energy. You will also have an opportunity to get your chakras grounded with healing vibrations while standing in a large singing bowl and/or choose a sound bath where you will be drenched in focused sound vibrations as you sit in front of a massive gong. \nIf skies are clear you will be able to see the (nearly) full moon rise over the rim of the world and over the standing stones of Kinstone. It is an ideal tool for stress reduction. Gongs and singing bowls are useful in resolving emotional and physical dissonance. Magic happens when there is no separation between the gong or the bowl\, the player and the listener. Playing and listening to gongs and bowls is about spiritual\, physical and emotional resolution. SUMMARY:Drum Making Workshop with Wayne Manthey
DESCRIPTION:“The healing properties of a drum are found in the elements that make it: wood and animal hide. Making personal frame drums is a journey that is individually and spiritually meaningful… The drum symbolizes the heartbeat of life; the heartbeat of community. It is not simply an art form\, but a tool for cleansing\, centering and focusing one’s intentions for health and happiness.” ~ Wayne Manthey \n\n\nIn this educational workshop you will make your own one-sided drum. When people create their own drums they can’t help but develop deep connections to it. The drum you create becomes an extension of yourself and a gateway to greater understanding of your connection to all. \nMaking your own drum is a journey that you will remember for the rest of your life. It takes about 4 hours to make your drum. \n\n\n\nClass size is limited so each person can get enough individual attention during the workshop. All you need to do is show up with a bit of curiosity and a desire to have a drum of your own. That’s all you need\, really! \n\n\nWe start with a pre-constructed frame\, deer hides\, and a bucket of walnut stain. First\, you choose your frame\, lay out the hides\, and take a few moments of reflection to connect to this medium. After cutting out the drum circles\, Wayne will lead the group one step at a time\, through the rest of the process. All you need is to be there and do it! \n\nThere are no words that can completely describe what it feels like to make your own drum. YogaJen or Jen).  Jen is an experienced yoga teacher who loves to help others on their wellness journey. \nThe energy exchange happening within Kinstone during time is so important. The more who join in\, the more connections can be made and deepened. Come on\, join in\, and make a “kinection”! \nWHEN:  weekly on Mondays from 10am – 11am from June 3rd through October 7th \nCOST:  This experience is donation based + the entrance fee to Kinstone ($10). Our hope is to keep these accessible to any who are feeling the call to move and do yoga with us. Consider purchasing a Season Pass to Kinstone if you plan to attend these events regularly – inquire about this in the Gift Shop! No registration is required for yoga.  \nWhat to bring: water bottle\, mat and/or blanket\, chair or cushion\, sunscreen\,  insect repellent\, and any other items you wish for your comfort. \nLocation/Meeting Area: The group will meet in the Great Stone Circle as a general rule. If it is raining\, the group will meet under the pavilion of the Dragon’s Keep or inside the Chapel of Creation depending upon the number of participants. If there is thunder\, lightning\, or high winds\, the event will be cancelled. \nCome early and wander the grounds\, visit your favorite standing stones\, and get inspired. \n\nAbout your leader \nJennifer Monsos\, called YogaJen or Jen\, is a mother of three (now adults) and has taught yoga since 2002 (over 3500 hours of classes) to a crazy variety of people. From the tiniest of humans with their moms in mommy and me classes\, to folks in assisting living and nursing homes. She is trained to provide trauma-informed yoga classes\, so everyone can participate and feel welcome and safe.  Jen also owned a local / whole food restaurant and is a CPA who is totally comfortable doing taxes\, finances and accounting! Besides teaching yoga she loves to teach everyone to be able to cook quick and easy foods as well as set up budgets\, businesses\, and become debt free. You will also have an opportunity to get your chakras grounded with healing vibrations while standing in a large singing bowl and/or choose a sound bath where you will be drenched in focused sound vibrations as you sit in front of a massive gong. \nIf skies are clear you will be able to see the (nearly) full moon rise over the rim of the world and over the standing stones of Kinstone. The rising (nearly) FULL MOON will be seen (weather permitting) as it climbs up from the eastern horizon while we welcome it with awe \nAccording to Frank\, the gong is a psycho-acoustic gateway to heightened states of awareness and consciousness. It is an ideal tool for stress reduction. Gongs and singing bowls are useful in resolving emotional and physical dissonance. Magic happens when there is no separation between the gong or the bowl\, the player and the listener. Playing and listening to gongs and bowls is about spiritual\, physical and emotional resolution. The sounds and frequencies help to open doors and windows onto the Universe\, moving around Universal energies and perhaps even usher the listener into a spiritual dimension. \nSecond Hour: Optional Chakra Grounding or Gong Bath\, each costs $5 extra in cash. Come explore the mysteries of your inner landscape while sharing energies with the mystical\, magical landscapes of Kinstone. \nJoin us for monthly Kinections through HEALING RITUALS on second Saturdays (May thru Oct). \n\n\n“Ritual is called for because our soul communicates things to us that the body translates as need\, or want\, or absence. So we enter into ritual in order to respond to the call of the soul.” \n― Malidoma Patrice Somé\, Ritual: Power\, Healing and Community\n\n\nJoin us for this monthly community healing ritual led by Erica Thibodeaux\, MS\, LPCC\, occurring on the second Saturday of each month May through October from 3pm to 6pm. \nNo experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. \nDuring these events\, we will come together and create a ritual that emerges from the rhythm of all who are gathered\, their current needs\, and the guidance and support of the elemental beings of the fire (ancestors)\, water\, earth\, nature\, and minerals. \nWhat gets created in group ritual arises out of the participants voices. Together\, we will create something NEW based on the relationships each participant carries with them into our circle from their own inner wisdom that may or may not be already known. \nThis event is highly participatory. You are asked to arrive with an open heart and mind and a willingness to learn from the Elements themselves\, as well as willingness to support your fellow participants.
