SUMMARY:The Labyrinth and the Creative Spirit Workshop
DESCRIPTION:*** NOTE: This event has been rescheduled to November 2\, 2024\nTHE LABYRINTH AND THE CREATIVE SPIRIT \nJoin Kathie Giorgio\, critically acclaimed author of novels\, story books\, essays and poetry as she presents an educational workshop on the use of the labyrinth as a tool to enhance and focus the creative process. \nThe labyrinth and the creative process go hand in hand. In this interactive workshop\, we will first take the time to define the four steps of the creative process: Preparation\, Incubation\, Illumination\, and Implementation. Then we will make these steps OUR steps – literally our footsteps – as we walk the labyrinth. \nAll who take this workshop are encouraged to have an interest in the arts\, particularly writing\, literary arts and visual arts. Each person will focus on an individual project. You do not have to have a specific\, pre-determined project\, and in fact\, it is better to come with an open mind as the labyrinth will help you arrive at an idea. Please don’t feel that you already have to be an artist or writer to do this – anyone with an interest is encouraged to participate. \nAfter the discussion of the creative process\, we will all walk the labyrinth. Upon reaching the center of the labyrinth\, participants will jot down notes or sketches of the images and thoughts they had on the spiral in. The walk from center back to the beginning is a focused time to let your idea(s) take shape. Upon stepping out of the labyrinth\, participants will start to formalize and work on their project – an art piece or written work – within the time allotted. \nAll participants will leave the workshop with a project well underway and helped on its way by turning our footsteps into the steps of the creative process. \nPre-registration is required\, as space is limited. The fee includes instruction and a selection of materials; the workshop is expected to fill. \nAlthough some art and writing materials will be provided\, please bring your preferred art supplies and/or whatever it is you like to write on. A sense of familiarity is often welcomed when working on something brand new. You are free to bring your own writing tools\, brushes\, charcoal or pastels\, or whatever you wish to work with\, and if you write\, feel free to bring your laptop or tablet or actual notebooks or paper and a favorite pen! \nPlease bring your own sack lunch. SUMMARY:Kin Spirit Nature Spirit Doll Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Kinstone + Connections = Kinections!\nAre you looking for more opportunities to deepen your connections to Nature\, self and others? Come experience the beauty of creative expression – join us for this art workshop to create a nature spirit doll called a Kin Spirit that includes at least one item found in nature at Kinstone! \n\nCheri Bunker will guide us during this three hour creative workshop. All supplies and tools are provided for your use and you will go home with your finished Kin Spirit nature spirit doll. \nYou will create your very own Kin Spirit beginning with a guided meditation. Questions like\, “Who is my Kin Spirit?”\, “What does she/he represent?”\, and “What part of me does she/he embody?” will help shape the emerging spirit of the doll. \nYou will create your Kin Spirit using natural items such as twigs\, branches\, stems\, flowers\, fibers\, fabric\, stones\, botanicals\, shells\, and more. Items collected from Kinstone will be included in available supplies; however\, there will also be time for the group to go out into nature (weather permitting) to find a special item from the Kinstone Prairie or other parts of the Kinstone grounds to include in your Kin Spirit doll. \nThe limbs and body may be twigs\, tree branches or stems wrapped with your choice of fiber\, fabric or both. Fabric\, fibers\, shells\, stones\, botanicals\, or other items from nature can be used as embellishments. Prefabricated\, molded faces will be available to paint or you may choose one of the pre-painted air dried clay faces\, or other natural item you may find like a nut or stone. Crown your Kin Spirit with fiber or leaves or other natural hair in any way you feel is right: beautiful and flowing\, wild and frizzy\, short and soft\, spiky\, or any other way. If there is something special you would like to add to your own Kin Spirit doll\, please bring it with you! \nAll supplies are provided. The sky is the limit as to what you can create with the added energy of Kinstone. \nNo experience is necessary. There is no right or wrong way to create these beautiful works of art. Just come ready to connect\, create and have fun! \nDate: Saturday\, July 20 \nTime: 1:00pm – 4:00pm \nCost: $45 \nTicket includes instruction and all required materials. \n  \n\nWhat is a Kin Spirit?  \nA Kin Spirit is a spirit doll created from items found in nature\, including items found and collected from the Kinstone property. The doll becomes your kin – someone related to you and even part of you\, with deep soul bonds to you. \nWhat is a Spirit Doll? \nWe love this description from Friends of the Forest: “Spirit dolls are handmade dolls that are infused with the energy and essence of nature. They can be made using materials such as twigs\, leaves\, feathers\, and stones – all found in our natural surroundings. By using these materials\, we not only celebrate the beauty of nature but also bring its healing properties into our lives. \nCreating spirit dolls from nature is a meditative process that allows us to slow down\, connect with our surroundings\, and tap into our creativity. As we gather materials from the earth\, we become more mindful of our environment and develop a deeper appreciation for its wonders. \nMoreover\, spirit dolls serve as powerful reminders of our connection to the natural world. Placing them in our homes or sacred spaces can help create a sense of peace and harmony. They can also serve as talismans for protection or symbols for manifesting intentions.” \n \n\nAbout your Instructor: \nCheri Bunker is a lifelong crafter and has over 20 years of experience presenting and facilitating many different types of classes and programs. She teaches mandala rock art classes\, spirit doll making classes\, Soul Collage ®\,  drumming and movement\, and other workshops! SUMMARY:The Labyrinth and the Creative Spirit Workshop
DESCRIPTION:THE LABYRINTH AND THE CREATIVE SPIRIT \nJoin Kathie Giorgio\, critically acclaimed author of novels\, story books\, essays and poetry as she presents an educational workshop on the use of the labyrinth as a tool to enhance and focus the creative process. \nImportant: Hand sanitizer will be available at all times\, each person will have their own materials\, some content will be delivered outdoors (weather permitting)\, each person will bring their own lunch and snacks. Masks are optional. Beverages (e.g. water\, tea\, coffee\, sparkling water) will be provided. \nDate: Saturday\, July 22\, 2023 \nTime: 10:00am to 3:00pm (plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early!) \nLocation: the Kinstone Education Center / the Kinstone Labyrinth (weather permitting) \nCOST: Regular Price: $75.00; Early Bird price through JUNE 22: $65.00 \nTicket includes instruction\, a selection of materials\, and general admission to Kinstone. \nThere are No Refunds unless the event is cancelled by Kinstone. \n  \nLimited attendance! We are hosting Dawn Tevis of SuminagashiScape to lead us in doing some suminagashi art during the Friday Kinections – Art and Poetry (First Fridays at Kinstone) event on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2. We’ll do this “floating ink” art on paper and maybe even on some smooth rocks that Kristine will provide! AND… we also plan to make some suminagashi inspired PRAYER FLAGS to add to the art installation that is part of the 4Ground Midwest Land Art! Exciting times! MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the First Friday – Friday Kinections event in September. \nEvery FIRST Friday\, May through October\, join us for a bit of creativity while we express ourselves through art and poetry. This year we are focusing on the creation of prayer flags that will become part of our “Growing Family” art installation that is part of the 4Ground Biennial Land Art festival going on all season. We welcome Valerie Savage and Shannon McHone as our leaders. They will be present to assist with supplies and ideas and they will hold the space for the group.  The leader is available to provide basic guidance. \nThe leader will be present and creating prayer flags\, art and/or poetry each FIRST Friday; the energy exchange happening within Kinstone during this hour each week is so important. The more who join in the more connections can be made and deepened. Come on\, join in\, and make a “kinection”! \nNo registration is required.  Rain or shine! \nLocation/Meeting Area: The FIRST Friday groups will meet inside the Education Center as a general rule where we will have paper\, fabric\, paints\, markers\, and other supplies for creative expression including making prayer flags and other art and poetry. Come early and wander the grounds\, visit your favorite standing stones\, and get inspired. \nWhat to bring: water bottle\, and any personal art supplies you may wish to bring \nCOST:  Admission to Kinstone…  and… the leaders appreciate a $5 to $10 suggested donation. \nThis is an informal\, donation based offering; which basically means come as you are and pay what you can using the suggested donation as a starting place. You must have paid your admission to Kinstone upon entering the grounds (either by credit card in advance online or in cash in the blue payment boxes on the information boards). There will be a separate collection point at the event where donations for the event will be taken. If you can pay the full suggested amount for the experience\, wonderful! If you can pay more than the suggested amount that would be awesome as you may be paying it forward for someone who cannot afford it. If you cannot afford the suggested amount\, pay what you can\, we understand. All are welcome no matter what their financial status is. We just ask that you make an honest donation. All donations go to the leader for the evening and to Kinstone for use of the space. \n\nFRIDAY KIN-ECTION EXPERIENCES \n\nFIRST Fridays: creative expression\, come make a prayer flag for our “Growing Family” art installation\nSECOND Fridays: group meditation\nTHIRD Fridays: drumming circles \nFOURTH Fridays: restorative yoga / movement sessions\nFIFTH Fridays: open practice; the fifth Fridays of the month (there are just 2 throughout the 2022 season) shall remain open for individual practices with no designated event\, theme or leader. If you arrive on a fifth Friday to engage in your own spiritual practice\, please make an honest donation in our blue payment boxes in addition to your admission to Kinstone. This is such an important energy exchange and helps Kinstone to be able to continue to offer these experiences. Thank you.

Plein air artists work to capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light\, color and movement into their art. \nAccording to Wikipedia\, in the mid-19th century\, working in natural light became particularly important to various artists and schools of art (e.g. the Barbizon school\, Hudson River School\, and Impressionists). Groups of plein air artists have begun gathering together to paint at single locations or within certain geographic boundaries giving them a chance to share their talents and creativity with the public and with one another. \nFind out more about plein air painting and related events by visiting any of the following websites: \nWisconsin Plein Air Painters Association (WIPAPA) \nOutdoor Painters of Minnesota (OPM) \nPlein Air Painters of America (PAPA)

This stunning 30-acre bluff-top property has a fabulous view of the Mississippi River as well as over 100 standing stones including three stone circles\, megalithic dolmen\, classic 7-circuit labyrinth\, thatched\, cordwood chapel\, dry-stack stone sculpture\, natural buildings\, food forest gardens\, raised bed gardens\, 2-acre prairie\, pond\, woodlands\, fields and more. \n\nOur mission states: “Kinstone blends conscious care of the Earth with art to form sacred spaces that invite and inspire people to connect with and experience the creative power of the land to transform\, energize and revive the body\, mind and spirit.” To further this mission\, we are offering three Plein Air Paint Days in 2020 to connect artists and the sacred beauty of the land: Spring\, Summer\, and Autumn – each one with slightly different details. We are excited about all the possibilities and creative wonder that will manifest from this connection. \n\nSo\, What is Plein Air Painting? \nEn Plein Air is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and it describes the practice of artists painting outdoors with the subject directly in view rather than in a studio. Wikipedia goes on to say French impressionist painters such as Monet\, Pissarro\, Cezanne\, Van Gogh and Renoir advocated plein air painting and much of their work was done outdoors. \nThere has been a recent revival of interest in plein air painting in the United States.

Participating artists may exhibit and sell any works produced during this event between 4pm and 6pm OUTSIDE of the Kinstone Education Building and on the Porch. Due to this being our very first plein air event and due to the limited\, 2-hour sales opportunity on this day\, Kinstone will retain NO part of any sales made by participating artists for this event only. Artists must remove their artwork by 6:30pm. \n—————————————————————————————————- \nJust one week before Solstice\, the lovely spirit of Spring will be in fine fiddle in June. She will already be saying farewell as greens intensify\, blues deepen and she strews the ground with fair flowers to prepare the way for Summer. Come out to paint Spring’s portrait as only you can before she is gone! \n—————————————————————————————————- \nThe cost to participate is $5/person (i.e. equal to and included in the price of admission to Kinstone!)  No pre-registration is required. Registration is from 7:30-8:30am onsite. Artists must sign a liability waiver upon Registration. Limited options for food and refreshments (e.g. coffee\, tea\, hot cocoa\, soda\, sparkling water) will be available for purchase throughout the day. \nIn case of rain there are several shelters artists may opt to work in including inside the Dolmen\, the yurt\, straw-clay cabin\, Dragon’s Keep pavilion\, Chapel of Creation\, the classroom\, and the Porch on the Education Center. \nKinstone will maintain its normal open hours (10am to 6pm) to the public throughout this event. Early prairie flowers are in bloom\, butterflies are out\, and choruses of robins and red winged black birds fill the air. Leafy greens are popping up in the raised beds and trees are newly leafed out. The standing stones are bathing their feet in lush clover and reaching up to touch fresh June skies. The pond is alive with chirruping frogs and ripples made by sweet\, Driftless breezes. The paths draw you on to the winding way of the labyrinth\, the open chamber of the dolmen\, the intimacy of the Circle of Mystery\, and so much more. Curvilinear rows of arborvitae and spruce hug the land and shelter you as you immerse yourself in color\, light\, and movement.  \n\nThis is our very first plein air event and we are quite excited to welcome artists from near and far!
