SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Sunrise Observance
DESCRIPTION:Kinstone + Connections = Kinections!\nAre you looking for more opportunities to deepen your connections to Nature\, self and others? Come witness the arrival of Summer\, connect with the seasons\, and share energies with the mystical\, magical landscapes of Kinstone. \n\nEvery Summer Solstice\, we stand and greet the sun as it enters the Great Stone Circle at sunrise. You are invited to join us as we recognize the passing of the seasons from Spring to Summer in this auspicious and sacred stone place. \nIf it is not raining we will gather at 5:00 am in the Great Stone Circle in time to share a very short ritual before we witness the rising of the sun – actual sunrise is at 5:23am but it is usually 5:30 before it visible in the stone circle. Feel free to arrive as early as 4:45am if you wish (that sounds sooooo early – but don’t go back to sleep!). \nGiven fair weather and a clear horizon\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and is ushered through the Summer Solstice Corridor into the circle. It will set its golden glow upon anyone standing in the middle of the circle. Further\, it will cast the shadow of those persons standing in the center onto the stone directly in the path of the sun – the “Shadow Stone”. \nFun fact: The Shadow Stone also marks the exact point of WINTER Solstice SUNSET\, i.e.  summer solstice sunrise and winter solstice sunset occur along the exact same line!  Truly magical! \nGiven cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunrise or our shadow\, but will greet the dawn of Summer ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. Feel free to bring a reading or quote to share. Witness the arrival of Summer. Send Spring on its way with blessings. \nCOST: admission to Kinstone (pay in advance online OR place your cash admission in the Blue Payment Box attached to the Information Sign Board near the parking areas); No Registration Required \nDate: Thursday\, June 20\, 2024 (rain date: June 21) \nTime: 5:00am – 6:00am \nThis event is outdoors. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, rain\, or clouds. If it is raining or storming this event will be cancelled. Dress for the weather\, be prepared to walk on dewy\, wet grass paths; bring a blanket or camp chair if you wish for your comfort; wear appropriate footwear\, jackets\, scarves\, hats\, and even gloves if needed! Bring your own insect repellent if you wish! \nCancellation will occur in case of RAIN. Cancellations will be posted ONLY on THIS event page and on the corresponding Facebook event page no sooner than 4 hours and no later than 1 hour before the scheduled start time for this event. If this event is cancelled due to weather\, we will try again on the following morning (June 21) at the same time – assuming the weather has improved. \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Summer Solstice is Thursday\, June 20 at 3:50 pm CDT.  \nPhoto credit: Kristine Beck

SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Sunrise Observance
DESCRIPTION:Every Summer Solstice\, we stand and greet the sun as it enters the Great Stone Circle at sunrise. You are invited to join us as we recognize the passing of the seasons from Spring to Summer in this auspicious and sacred stone place. Witness the arrival of Summer and send Spring on its way with blessings. This year we have two special musicians joining us!! \nThis event will be held as scheduled as long as it is not raining or storming. We will be outdoors as we stand and watch the sunrise. If there is rain or it is storming\, we will cancel – watch for cancellation updates (if any) on the day of the event.  \nSPECIAL GUESTS: \n Shawn Vougeot: singer\, songwriter\, classical violinist\, television producer\, videographer and cofounder of New World Women\, will serenade the rising sun with her violin. \nAl “Good Heart” Baker: Big Drum Chief and Keeper of Sacred Song of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa\, will drum and sing to honor the sun on this Summer Solstice. \nThis promises to be one of those deeply soulful experiences you get when your heart strings are plucked and you resonate in time with the whole universe. Don’t miss this!  (I know\, it’s early… but don’t go back to sleep!) \nWe will gather in the Great Stone Circle in time to witness the rising of the sun – actual sunrise is at 5:23am but it is usually at least 5:30 before it is fully visible in the stone circle. Feel free to arrive as early as 5:00am if you wish. \nGiven fair weather and a clear horizon\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and is ushered through the Summer Solstice Corridor into the circle. It will set its golden glow upon anyone standing in the center of the circle. Further\, it will cast the shadow of those persons standing in the center onto the stone directly in the path of the sun – the “Shadow Stone”.  Fun fact: This stone also marks the exact point of Winter Solstice Sunset\, i.e.  summer solstice sunrise and winter solstice sunset occur along the exact same line.  Who knew? Truly magical! \nThis will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. We will also light a Solstice Fire. \nCOST: this event is FREE and open to the public\, No Registration Required  (Donations are greatly appreciated! Also\, if you plan to enjoy the Kinstone grounds for all or part of the day before or after this event\, please pay admission. Thank you! Admission can be paid in advance online or you can place cash into a Blue Payment Box on the Information Sign Board near the parking area when you arrive.) \nDate: Tuesday\, June 21\, 2022  Time: 5:15am – 6:15am \nThis event is outdoors. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, or clouds. Dress for the weather\, be prepared to walk on dewy\, wet grass paths; bring a blanket or camp chair if you wish for your comfort; wear appropriate footwear\, scarves\, hats\, and even gloves if needed! Bring your own insect repellent if you wish. \nCancellation will occur in case of rain or storms. Cancellations will be posted only on this event page and on the corresponding Facebook event page at least 1 hour before the scheduled start time for this event. \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Summer Solstice is Tuesday\, June 21\, 2022 at 4:13 am CDT.  \nPhoto credit: Kristine Beck

SUMMARY:A Kirtan Experience in the Stone Circle
DESCRIPTION:Come experience KIRTAN with us and even sing along here at Kinstone in our beautiful stone circle. Lotus Head\, a transcendental lounge and kirtan band from Viroqua Wisconsin will lead us in this enchanting musical encounter. They will perform mostly original kirtan compositions designed to assist us in connecting with our wholeness. Be ready to raise your vibrations with their mystical music\, ancient chants and powerful affirmations. \nJai Lynn leads with lyrics\, harmonium and percussion. She will guide us into harmony. Monte plays gong and drums (as well as bass and piano when power is available!); he has over 30 years of musical experience. Together Jai Lynn and Monte create an awakening and transcendental experience. \nCome enjoy! \nSo\, you may ask\, WHAT IS KIRTAN???  Read on… \nKirtan is music. It may be quite a different kind of music than you are used to. It comes from India and largely consists of mantras or chants sung by a leader and then repeated by the audience. It’s a kind of sing-a-long. Many of the songs are sung in Sanskrit and are based on ancient chants. Since you do not know the words\, you can immerse yourself in the music and quiet your mind. It can be a very meditative and magical experience. \nThe following italicized text is quoted from Kitzie Stern\, producer of the podcast\, New World Kirtan: \n“What is Kirtan? \n\n\n\n\n\nIt began in India centuries ago as a spiritual practice\, and was known as the layman’s way to connect with the Divine.\nIn the last ten years\, kirtan has become a phenomenon across the United States\, and has transformed musically to appeal to the ears of American audiences.\nKirtan is a new kind of concert experience here in the West.  It’s not so much a performance as a journey into the self through the practice of listening & singing.  The leaders at a kirtan concert are called wallahs\, and everyone is part of the music.  My all-time favorite descriptions of a kirtan concert: “It’s like singing around a campfire”\, “It’s like a hootenanny with meditation.”\nWhile singing along at a kirtan concert\, you can experience your own voice becoming as beautiful as those performing—all voices merge together to become One Voice.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKirtan is a very simple & powerful way to meditate.  It’s effortless & joyful; the music does the work for you as you flow with the melody & rhythm.\nThe performers & the concert-goers create the experience together.\nThe chants are sung in Sanskrit unless you attend a Sikh kirtan ( e.g. Snatam Kaur).  The ancient chants contain powerful renewing & transformative energy that helps us reconnect with the Divinity that resides within all of us.\nSinging is the heart of kirtan\, and no one cares what you sound like.  At a kirtan concert all voices merge together to become One Voice.\nKirtan is non-denominational\, the Universal language of Spirit\, the song of the Soul.”\n\n\n\nIMPORTANT: This is a non-smoking\, alcohol free\, kid-friendly event. This event will be held rain or shine. If the weather is not ideal for outdoor listening we will hold this event inside the Kinstone Education Center. No refunds. \nDate:  Friday\, June 28\, 2019  Time:  6:00 pm Tickets:  $12.00 up to 24 hours in advance\, $15.00 at the door. Kids 12 & under are FREE but must be accompanied by an adult registered for the event! \nPurchase tickets through Eventbrite by clicking HERE or by clicking on the link labeled “Website:”  in the right-hand column on this page; your printed receipt is required for entry. \nPay at the door (cash only) is possible but requires a reservation in advance\, so if you plan to come and pay at the door please CONTACT US to register! Advanced payment is preferred. \nNOTICE:  Bring your own chair or blanket to sit on. Dress for the weather and bring your own insect repellent and/or sunscreen if needed. A flashlight may be helpful if you stay until dark. Park in designated parking areas. Upon arrival\, proceed to the Stone Circle (or the Education Center Classroom if raining). \nABOUT LOTUS HEAD \nLotus Head is a transcendental lounge and kirtan band from Viroqua Wisconsin. SUMMARY:Summer Solstice Sunrise Observance
DESCRIPTION:Every Summer Solstice\, we stand and greet the sun as it enters the Kinstone Circle at sunrise. You are invited to join us as we recognize the passing of the seasons from Spring to Summer in this auspicious and sacred stone place. \nWe will gather at 5:15 am to be ready to witness the rising of the sun – actual sunrise is at 5:23am but it is usually 5:30 before it visible in the stone circle. Given fair weather and a clear horizon\, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and is ushered through the Summer Solstice Corridor into the circle. It will set its golden glow upon anyone standing in the middle of the circle. Further\, it will cast the shadow of those persons standing there onto the stone directly in the path of the sun. This stone happens to be the marker for the exact point of WINTER Solstice SUNSET!  Isn’t that fun fact!? Truly magical! \nGiven cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunrise or the shadow\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. Witness the arrival of Summer. Send Spring on its way with blessings. This gathering will last about 45 minutes. Although the actual sunrise is at 5:23am\, the topography of Kinstone means it will be just a little different. Be there early\, just in case! Feel free to arrive as early as 5:00am if you so wish. \nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required\, Family Friendly\, No Pets \nDate: Friday\, June 21\, 2019   Time: 5:15 am – 6:15am \nThis event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Please note that we will not see the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by morning mist\, fog\, rain\, or clouds. If it is raining or storming we shall gather indoors in the Kinstone Education Center. Dress for the weather\, be prepared for a dewy walk in grass; wear appropriate footwear\, scarves\, hats\, a blanket\, and even gloves if needed! Bring your own insect repellent if you wish! \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the Summer Solstice is Friday\, June 21\, 2019 at 10:54am CDT.
