SUMMARY:Last Sunset of Summer - Autumnal Equinox Sunset Observance
DESCRIPTION:Watch the Sunset Alignment and Catch the Sun on the Eve of Equinox \n9/22/23 5:30pm UPDATE: We are proceeding in the cloudy weather. Any who wish to may gather with us for a short program but we will NOT see the alignment due to the overcast skies! Rain expected at 7ish. Plan accordingly! \n\nThis event will be held as scheduled so as long as the weather is good. We will be outdoors where we will stand and watch the sunset. If the weather is bad\, we will cancel – watch for final updates on the day of the event.  \nThis Sunset Alignment event is held the evening before the date of Equinox as we say farewell to Summer by watching its last sunset together.  \nAt Kinstone we have a unique alignment visible only at Equinox at sunset. Stand with us and the Enlightenment Stones (Atlas and Lancelot) as the sun aligns to shine through the perforations in Lancelot and cast a line of bright points of light onto Atlas. Come and see! Join us to celebrate the coming of harvest-time and the golden season of autumn. \nAutumnal Equinox is an astronomically significant solar event. It occurs when the sun is midpoint in its journey from Summer Solstice to Winter Solstice. The sun appears to rise at due east and set at due west. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a herald of winter; a time for settling in for the season of rest\, rejuvenation and root work. \nCOST: admission to Kinstone\, (pay in advance online OR place your cash admission in the Blue Payment Box attached to the Information Sign Board near the parking areas); No Registration Required \nDate: Friday\, September 22\, 2023  Time: 6:15pm – 7:15pm \nActual sunset is expected at 7:04pm for our location. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the time we witness it is always a bit earlier than expected.  \nThis will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading to send Summer off with grace. Given fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sunlight is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in Lancelot. We will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun immediately after our readings. \nDress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, jackets\, scarves\, hats and gloves. Bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on\, for your comfort\, if you wish. Be prepared for it to be breezy and cool up here on the ridge. Many people underestimate the wind and cold. \n\n\nThis event is outdoors and will be held only weather permitting. If it is raining this event will be cancelled. Cancellations will be posted only on this event page and on the corresponding Facebook event page at least one (1) hour before the scheduled start time for this event. \n\nIMPORTANT: If you wish to ensure your chance to “catch the sun”\, please Contact Us to sign up by sending an email stating “I want to catch the sun” and include your full name and email address with the subject “Catch the sun”. During this event\, guests who have signed up will be invited\, in order of sign-up time\, to catch the sun as and if weather and sunlight conditions permit. After that\, anyone attending can try this on a first-come basis. As many as we can get through will be given a chance to be photographed with their hands catching the sun – bring a friend who can be your photographer! \n\nHAPPY AUTUMN! \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Autumnal Equinox is Saturday\, September 23\, 2023 at 1:49am CDT.

SUMMARY:Singing Bowls at Sunset
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a meditative music experience in the Great Stone Circle at sunset. Ageless sounds of singing bowls blended with chant and song. It promises to be an evening of resonance and contemplative peace. \nTraditional historic singing bowls produce sounds that invoke deep states of relaxation; naturally assisting one in entering expanded states of consciousness and meditation. The sound of the bowls creates a deep level of communication with our inner world that opens us to the divine.  The sounds and vibrations of Tibetan singing bowls opens blockages and helps us experience an inner calm and deep relaxation to invigorate our natural energy thus allowing our body-mind-spirit to quiet and find balance. \nThomas Roberts will lead us for this evening of captivating renewal by calling forth the ageless bell sounds from the bowls. Karen Lee will sing or chant with the bowls. At times you may hear influences from the Native American cultures that are an integral part of her life experience and spirituality. Experience the power and beauty of traditional Tibetan singing bowls and the blending tones of Karen’s voice as we watch the sunset. \nDuring this performance at Kinstone one can expect the unexpected … vocal spontaneity and improvisation from the heart\, intertwined with the vibrational voices of the Singing Bowls.  Prepare to be opened to deep relaxation and meditation in the presence of sacred sound. Come join us!! \nDate:  Saturday\, September 11\, 2021 \nTime:  6:30pm until sunset (approximately 7:45)  (Note: Actual time of the sunset is 7:37pm.) \nTickets:  $15.00 Early Bird price through September 4\, after that it is $20.00 online and at the door. Kids 12 & under are FREE but must be accompanied by an adult with a paid ticket for the event. \nNo refunds unless cancelled by Kinstone due to weather. \nPay at the door is possible and must be in cash and exact change! Advanced payment is preferred. \n*IMPORTANT:  This is a family friendly\, alcohol free\, smoke free event! \nSTUFF TO BRING: Bring your own chair\, reclining lawn chair\, blankets\, pillows\, or mats for your comfort. Bring a flashlight\, dress for the weather\, and wear sturdy walking shoes. Bring something to protect yourself from any mosquitoes or other biting insects as they become more active after sunset.  Bring your printed ticket with you for admission! If paying at the door\, bring $20 in CASH; correct change please. \nWhen you arrive\, park in one of our two parking areas and then walk to the Great Stone Circle. Find a place to sit and wait for someone to come around to collect your ticket or your cash for participating in this event. Enjoy! If you arrive after the music has begun\, please be extra quiet as you get settled. If you bring children with you\, please ensure that they stay with you at all times and maintain quiet voices. \nThis event will be cancelled in case of bad weather; if that happens\, your ticket will be refunded; otherwise\, there are NO REFUNDS. \nCancellation notices will be posted not later than one hour before the scheduled start time of the event; they will be posted here on the website as well as on Facebook on the corresponding event page. \n\nThomas Roberts \nThomas (“Tom”) Roberts has gained widespread recognition in the field of health and healing as an and educator\, speaker and author who translates ancient mindfulness techniques into practical strategies that people can use in their everyday lives to be healthier\, happier\, and more fulfilled. Tom has nearly 50 years of experience as a licensed clinical psychotherapist. He has been an adjunct professor at Viterbo University in La Crosse\, WI and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud\, MN\, where he has taught mind-body healing\, integrative medicine and other mindfulness related topics. He has been a practicing Zen Buddhist for nearly 50 years. In 1992 he received lay Buddhist vows from Thich Nhat Hanh. Based in La Crosse\, Wisconsin\, Tom offers contemplative and meditation retreats and workshops at centers locally and throughout the United States. He is the author of The Mindfulness Workbook: A guide to overcoming fear and embracing compassion (New Harbinger Press\, 2009). \n  \nKaren Lee \nVocalist Karen Lee has been crooning for a lifetime.  Originally a La Crosse native\, Karen has returned home after spending 20 years in Portland and La Grande OR\, and nearly a decade in NYC. Karen’s passion for singing has led her down various musical avenues. Her musical career began as folk singer/songwriter in the 70’s\, which evolved into country rock\, blues and swing\, rhythm and blues\, and later into jazz and improvisation. In her early musical adventures\, Karen laid down many miles of life on the road. Embracing cultural diversity and life’s experiences enhanced Karen’s musical expression as a vocal soloist.  And she has been a frequent band member who has often arranged and sang intricate harmonies.  All of her travels gave rise to live performances\, recordings and many other musical opportunities. Karen’s vocal sound continues to evolve. Her voice has been described as that of a rich and sultry ballad and blues singer that can belt out a strong as sassy R&B tune yet is able to sing the intimate style of a bossa nova.

SUMMARY:Last Sunset of Summer - Catch the Sun - Fall Equinox
DESCRIPTION:Autumn Equinox Evening Observance\nWatch the Sunset Alignment and Try to Catch the Sun! \nCome celebrate the last sunset of Summer with us at Kinstone! Join us as we gather to observe the sunset alignment at Kinstone on the eve of the Fall (Autumnal) Equinox. We will gather near the stones known as Lancelot and Atlas for a short opening rite and reading.  Sunset is at 7:04pm according to the charts\, but is often a little earlier as seen from up on the ridge\, so we will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun shortly after the reading at 6:30! \nGiven fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sun light is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in the Wise One. Given cloudy weather\, we will not see the sunset\, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! It is a harbinger of winter; a time for settling in for the season of rest\, rejuvenation and root work. \nCOST: Suggested Donation of $5/person – there will be a donation box at the event; No Registration Required \nDate: Monday\, September 21\, 2020  Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm \nLocation: near the stones known as Atlas and Lancelot at Kinstone \nIf you wish to be given a chance to “catch the sun”\, please Contact Us to sign up by sending an email stating “I want to catch the sun” and include your full name\, email address and phone number with the subject “Catch the sun”. Guests who have signed up will be called in order of sign-up time – as many as we can get through will be given a chance to be photographed with their hands catching the sun – only if weather and sunset conditions permit the phenomenon to occur!  Bring a friend who can be your photographer! \nDress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes\, jackets\, scarves\, hats and gloves if chilly! Bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on\, for your comfort\, if you wish. \nDue to COVID\, if this event is rained out we will NOT be able to move this event indoors. Therefore\, it will be cancelled if the weather is rainy. Watch this Kinstone website event page as well as the corresponding event page on Facebook for updates on cancellations due to weather. We will post cancellation notifications no later than 1 hour before the scheduled start time of the event. \nInteresting fact: The exact time of the astronomical Autumnal Equinox is Tuesday\, September 22\, 2020 at 8:30 am CDT.  \nIMPORTANT: If you wish to wander the grounds of Kinstone please plan to pay regular admission as well. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Equinox Evening: Sunset and Moonrise - Vernal Equinox Observance
DESCRIPTION:THIS is an EVENING event to see our SUNSET ALIGNMENT (there is a separate event for morning to see our sunrise alignment). \nSpring Equinox is one of those astronomically significant solar events when the sun is midpoint in its journey between the Summer and Winter Solstices. It is traditionally seen as a time of balance. The light of day and the dark of night are equal. It is a time for new beginnings\, growth\, and seeking the joy of the light. At Kinstone we have a unique ALIGNMENT between the setting sun and the stones known as Atlas and Lancelot that is visible during the SUNSET on Equinox. Come and see! \nJoin us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Winter to Spring. Celebrate the warming of the Earth and the long awaited time for putting out new growth from the long winter’s root work that has been underway. We will celebrate together at sunset! \nSPECIAL CELESTIAL EVENT in 2019: There is a FULL MOON on the same day as the Vernal Equinox!! Weather permitting\, we will see a marvelous moonrise as well as a wonderful sunset this evening!   \nCOST: Free\, No Registration Required \nDate: Wednesday\, March 20   Time: 6:45pm – 7:45pm \n\n\nCome experience the Vernal Equinox sunset (and MOONRISE!) as we gather near the stones known as Lancelot and Atlas for a short opening rite and reading. Given fair weather and clear skies as the sun sets in the West\, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sun light is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon\, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in Lancelot. We will begin watching for opportunities to Catch the Sun at 7:00pm! \nGiven cloudy or rainy weather\, we will not see the moonrise or the sunset or the alignment\, but will greet these celestial events ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet\, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. After our readings\, if the sun is visible\, participants may wish to try to “catch the sun”\, take photos\, and watch the sun go down as we welcome Spring. This year\, (again\, weather permitting) we will have the special treat of seeing a VERY FULL moon rising in the east as the sun sets in the west. We will witness the arrival of Spring and send Winter on its way with our blessings. \nThis gathering will last about an hour. Actual moonrise is at 7:00pm and actual sunset is at 7:29pm. However\, with the topography specific to Kinstone\, the times we witness these is always somewhat different. \n\nIf you wish to be given a chance to “catch the sun”\, please Contact Us to sign up by sending an email stating “I want to catch the sun” and include your full name and email address with the subject “Catch the sun”. During this event\, guests who have signed up will be invited\, in order of sign-up time\, to catch the sun as and if weather and sunlight conditions permit. As many as we can get through will be given a chance to be photographed with their hands catching the sun – only if weather and sunset conditions permit the phenomenon to occur! \n\nThis event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Again\, please note that we will not see the moonrise\, sunset\, or the alignment if it is cloudy or if the horizon is obstructed by mist\, fog or clouds. If it is raining\, we will gather indoors in the Kinstone Education Center. Cancellation will occur in case of a major storm. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear\, scarves\, hats and gloves if chilly! Be prepared for it to be breezy and cooler than expected up here on the ridge! \nInteresting facts: The exact time of the astronomical Vernal Equinox is Wednesday\, March 20\, 2019\, at 4:58pm CDT. The exact time of the Full Moon on the same day is 8:42pm.
