Join us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Winter to Spring. The exact time of the Vernal Equinox is Tuesday, March 20 at 11:15am CDT., however, we will be celebrating it that day (March 20) at two times – sunrise and sunset! At Kinstone we have two alignments that help us observe the passing of Winter and arrival of Spring. These events give us all a chance to experience both alignments on this special holy day.

6:30pm – 7:30pm Sunset Gathering and Catching of the Sun
Join us as we gather to observe the sunset on the Vernal Equinox. First we will gather in the large stone circle for about 30 minutes. We will have a short opening rite and reading. We will then proceed to the stones known at Atlas and Lancelot and wait for the sun to set. Sunset is at 7:19pm; however, we may see the alignment earlier depending on the brightness of the sun on the horizon. Given fair weather and clear skies, as the sun sets in the West, we will witness the light as it passes through the “Wise One” (Lancelot) and enlightens the “World” (Atlas). If the sun light is strong enough and unobstructed by clouds on the horizon, we will see a line of polka-dots on Atlas and a select few folks may be able to “catch the sun” as it aligns with the perforations in Lancelot. Given cloudy or rainy weather, we will not see the sunset, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless!
If you wish to be given a chance to “catch the sun”, please sign up by calling or sending an email with your full name, email address and phone number to [email protected] with the subject “Catch the sun”.
From all the persons signing up, five lucky guests will be selected randomly and given the chance to be photographed with their hands catching the sun – only if weather and sunset conditions permit the phenomenon to occur.
This event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Cancellation will occur in case of a winter storm. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear, scarves, hats and gloves!
