In this introductory workshop, learn to use the labyrinth to focus your creative energies! Join Kathie Giorgio, critically acclaimed author of novels, story books, essays and poetry as she presents this educational workshop on the use of the labyrinth as a tool to enhance and focus the creative process. The labyrinth and the creative process go hand in hand. In this interactive workshop, we will first take the time to define the four steps of the creative process: Preparation, Incubation, Illumination, and Implementation. Then we will make these steps OUR steps – literally our footsteps – as we walk the labyrinth.
After the discussion of the creative process, we will proceed to the Kinstone Labyrinth where we will all walk the labyrinth. Upon reaching the center of the labyrinth, participants will jot down notes or sketches of the images and thoughts they had on the spiral in. The walk from center back to the beginning is a focused time to let your idea(s) take shape. Upon stepping out of the labyrinth, participants will start to formalize and work on their project – an art piece or written work – within the time allotted.
All participants will leave the workshop with a project well underway and helped on its way by turning our footsteps into the steps of the creative process.
All who take this workshop are encouraged to have an interest in the arts, particularly writing, literary arts and visual arts. Each person will focus on an individual project. You do not have to have a specific, pre-determined project, and in fact, it is better to come with an open mind as the labyrinth will help you arrive at an idea. Please don’t feel that you already have to be an artist or writer to do this – anyone with an interest is encouraged to participate.
Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. The fee includes instruction and a selection of materials; the workshop is expected to fill.
Although some art and writing materials will be provided, please bring your preferred art supplies and/or whatever it is you like to write on. A sense of familiarity is often welcomed when working on something brand new. You are free to bring your own writing tools, brushes, charcoal or pastels, or whatever you wish to work with, and if you write, feel free to bring your laptop or tablet or actual notebooks or paper and a favorite pen!
Please bring your own sack lunch. Beverages (e.g. water, tea, coffee, sparkling water) will be provided.

What to bring:
- Bring your own sack lunch and any snacks you wish to eat. There will be a refrigerator available to keep food/beverages cold if needed.
- Bring your preferred art supplies and/or whatever it is you like to write on – including your journal, notebook, tablet or laptop.
- A willingness to be open and creative
- A blanket or pillow to sit on, if you wish, for your comfort; chairs will be available to all in the classroom
- Your own water bottle / travel mug. Note: water, coffee and tea will be provided; and we encourage you to bring your own water bottle/travel mug to drink from. Soda and sparkling water will be available for purchase.
- This class will be held mostly indoors; however, it will include some walking outdoors (weather permitting); bring your own sunscreen, insect repellent, umbrella, sunglasses, sunhat, or other personal items; dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes!

KATHIE GIORGIO is the critically acclaimed author of eight novels, The Home For Wayward Clocks (2011), Learning To Tell (A Life)Time (2013), Rise From The River (2015), In Grace’s Time (2017), If You Tame Me (2019), All Told (2022), Hope Always Rises (2023), and Don’t Let Me Keep You (2024), two story collections, Enlarged Hearts (2012) and Oddities & Endings; The Collected Stories Of Kathie Giorgio (2016), a collection of essays, Today’s Moment Of Happiness Despite The News; A Year Of Spontaneous Essays (2018), and four poetry books, True Light Falls In Many Forms (2016), When You Finally Said No (2019), No Matter Which Way You Look, There Is More To See (2020) and Olivia In Five, Seven, Five; Autism In Haiku (2022). Her poem “Light” won runner-up in the 2021 Rosebud Magazine Poetry Prize and her poem, “Again”, won first prize in the Wisconsin Writers Association’s Jade Ring contest. She is a two-time winner of the Zona Gale Short Fiction Award, for her stories, “Quiet” and “Recipe”. Her short story, “Snapdragon”, was performed on stage for the Stories On Stage series at Su Teatro theatre in Boulder, Colorado. Her poem, “Harvest Moon”, was included in the Poetry Leaves exhibition in Waterford, Michigan. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel listed Giorgio as one of the top 21 Wisconsin writers of the 21st century.
Besides being a writer, Giorgio is also the director and founder of the international creative writing studio, AllWriters’ Workplace & Workshop LLC.
