Join us to celebrate the passing of the seasons from Winter to Spring. The exact time of the Vernal Equinox is Monday, March 20, 2017 at 5:29am CDT., however, we will be witnessing and celebrating it on Sunday, March 19 at two times – sunrise and sunset! At Kinstone we have two alignments that help us observe the passing of Winter and arrival of Spring. These events give us all a chance to experience both alignments on this special holy day.
This page describes the details for our SUNRISE event (there is a separate page for our SUNSET event):
COST: Free, No Registration Required
Date: Sunday, March 19, 2017
6:30 am – 7:30am Sunrise Gathering
Come be a witness to the Vernal Equinox sunrise as we gather in the center of The Three Witnesses sculpture at Kinstone. Given fair weather and clear skies, we will watch the sun as it crests the ridge and beams through the Equinox Window to light up the heart of the middle “witness”. Given cloudy or rainy weather, we will not see the sunrise, but will greet it ceremoniously regardless! This will be a quiet, meditative event with a short opening rite and reading. Witness the arrival of Spring. Send Winter on its way with blessings. This gathering will last about 45 minutes. The actual sunrise is at 7:08am, but the topography of Kinstone means it will be just a little different – exact time unknown. This event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Cancellation will occur in case of a winter storm. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear, scarves, hats and gloves!
