Stargazer Circle is an elliptical stone circle that surrounds a limestone fire ring. It was created by Kristine Beck in October 2011 and then modified by her in 2014. There are nine (9) large stones that form the circle. Kristine chose this elliptical shape, mostly to keep in mind that many stone “circles” in the world are actually not circles at all; rather they are egg-shaped or elliptical. This may symbolize new life, birth, a planetary or comet orbit, or something else.
The Stargazer Circle gets its name from two particular stones within it that are shaped a bit like natural recliners. This stone circle is dedicated to the Night. There are stones here named “Stargazer”, “Double Stargazer”, “Night”, “The Milky Way”, and the “Table of Darkness”. Several offer relatively comfortable reclining to watch the brilliance of the night sky with its meteor showers, northern lights, stars, moon, comets, the Milky Way and more. In daytime they facilitate gazing at the blue sky and clouds. They each make surprisingly comfortable places to lie down and gaze up.
The tallest and only standing stone in this circle is called The Reflection Stone since it readily reflects firelight. It is a geological wonder from Milbank, SD. It has a dramatic, colorful, mineralized and crystallized face with a reddish gray Carnelian Granite back. The large, stone table with 3 benches is called the “Table of Darkness” and is similar to and part of the same rock as the polished table in The Three Witnesses sculpture.
